We're looking at going to a 2003 260 from a 1998 270 SE. Is it a good or bad move? I know the 260 is a foot smaller but it does have an extended swim platform so it's technically same size or bigger. Both boats are fully loaded except the 270 has a generator and the 260 does not. The 260 has a windlass and the 270 does not.

Just looking for other opinions and thoughts that we may be overlooking.

Not sure where you lose your space but a tighter engine room may make working on it more difficult. Only you can balance the pros/cons of windlass vs generator. I would think the gen is of more roi than windlass, which is likely also cheaper to add. What about differences in engine and drives?

I had a 260 and liked it a lot. We just wanted something with more room because we stay many weekends on it. We compared both and just preferred the 260 at the time. I think it is a personal preference thing.

I'm sure the generator is better to have than a windlass. The 270se doesn't have the pass through windshield so it makes it a pain to get to the anchor. Also the deck has four different levels/steps that everybody is constantly tripping on and banging their feet on. Other than those two things the 270 SE is nice but those two things are kind of a safety thing.

The 270se has a 7.4 MPI and Bravo 3 drive while the 260 has a 350 mag MPI and Bravo 3 drive. Obviously the 7.4 is the better choice but I don't even know if the 260 is offered with a 7.4, I've only seen 5.0 and 350 mags in my search.

Why not look for a 270da? Same vibe as the 270se, but most come with everything you're looking for.
-more space
-extended swim platform
-7.4MPI with B3
-Windlass
-Kohler Genset

Need's to be trailerable as well. Legally, without pulling permits every weekend, lol.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but if you're able to trailer the 6200 dry weight of a 260, you're in the same area of trailering a 7200 dry weight of a 270, no? Or does it come down to the 3 extra feet in length

The 8'6 beam which is legally trailerable, verses the 9'2 + beam that you technically need permit to trailer.
