How do I check my shore power converter.
The guy I bought the boat from said when
he hooked up to shore power the batteries
would be dead when he unhooked. This
guy never left the dock much and didn't really
seem all that conversant on systems. I was wondering if the place to start may be, to check and see if the guy was putting the converter breaker on. My wife and I are planning a series of trips this summer along the New England coast and want to make sure
everything is operating properly. Any advice???

get volt meter and check voltage on batteries - it should be a little over 12v on fully charged batteries, now turn on battery charger and check voltage again(you may have to wait few minutes for charger to "kick-in") - voltage should be 12.8 or more. If it is not - check if charger is getting power, also check fuses on output lines.

What year is your 270 and what kind of battery charger? I just had to replace my charger as the original kicked it after 12 years...... It was a Pro Mariner 20 and had an amber power light and an amp meter showing the output to the 3 banks.
