I am new to the boating world. I have purchased a 1985 270 Sundancer. It has twin 5.7 OMC. My question is I do not know at what RPM my tachs should be running at Crusing. I asked the tech at the marina where I keep my boat. He said full out they will run at 4600 rmp and crusin will be about 4200. Any input from somebody who actually knows.

I had the same engine in my '87. The tech is right....sorta. The RPM range you should be looking for at wide open throttle is 4200-4600. If you are substantially higher or lower than that range you will need to make some changes to the prop size. A prop shop in your area could help.

I do not feel you should run your boat WOT all the time. In my single 5.7, I cruised at about 3500 RPMs. That worked best for me.

You have a nice boat with a great engine set up and the 5.7s are practically bullet-proff and easy to work on. Have fun. :smt001

Thanks for the reply. We really like the boat we purchased. Glad to have found a site as this one. Looking foward to a lot of good times on the water.
