i have a Very nice (8.5 out of 10) 2008 270 SLX with every option but the arch (by choice) and the 496. Low hours. Most folks think it is new. Someone has offered me a very fair price for it, where I could take the proceeds and just a bit out of pocket and get a new 270 SDX. I was at a dealer with the two boats side by side, and they are closer in size then I thought. The SLX is only longer from the pointed bow, but not actual usable space.

Anyhow, I have been going back and forth in my head for days. New boat, smaller engine and less bling but 5 year bow to stern warranty, amazing cockpit seating area and super transom seating area. Or, keep my boat, fancy, nice condition, big motor, optioned up, but no warranty. Less open seating and less than ideal transom seating.

Thoughts?

Not sure how happy I would be having had the 496 and moving to same basic boat with less get up and go. I know you take pristine care of your boat and no doubt it looks like new.

On the flip side, new warranty, better seating, and a smaller power plant.

This is going to be a personal choice. For a little more, it would be hard not to go with new...

Just my $0.02...

Man I can't wait to get a boat with a smaller engine........

...... said no man ever.
I hear you. Part of the struggle. I timed it to plane and it is a little quicker to get there. To 20 mph and 30 mph about the same. Feels and sounds different doing it though. But my current one will do that same performance with 10 on board...

A friend of mine bought a a 270SD from me last year and ordered it with the 350HP 6.2L engine. I have to admit, I was pretty impressed with the performance - we were doing water sports just fine with 5 adults and 4 kids. BUT, as mentioned, you certainly can't wrong with a bigger engine. FYI, you CAN get a big block in the 270SD.

Nope I wouldn't do it. Our boat is up for sale now and looking to go much larger. You get a big block in a smaller boat too, hint hint.

Well the buyer might have solved the issue for me. He is delaying the close less than 24 hours from when it was to happen. Sounds like he can't come up with the cash, even though I vetted him at the beginning.

Sea Ray ruined the Sundeck series in 2010 when they made them 2 feet shorter. Apparently they thought they were giving away too much boat for the money. Perhaps the same thinking transferred over to the SLX's?

I have a '04 270 Sundeck with the 8.1. It is paid for and has 95 hours. I don't see anything out there that is so much better as a package that I would get out my wallet.
