27 Sea Ray Sundancer, 10 Wide, Single 454 Prop Choices

Anyone,
I am considering buying a used 27 Dancer, 10 wide/w a single 454 and trs drive.

What seems to be the best prop for acceleration?

Does somone make a shifting prop and does someone make a 4 blade prop?

Can the present prop be cupped? The present prop is a 20" dia x 19" pitch.

Thanking you in advance, Stan,

what year? I had a 1990 27' with single 454, so i am qualified to answer this ad nauseum.... there are plenty of 4 & even 5 blade props out there. I am assuming the model is a late 80's version. That boat is big for a single engine, even a 454. I have seen them with twin 350's btw which were fast boats. With a boat that heavy, and an engine so torqie it will spin must center hubs out. i found a great prop (16x16 mercury) 3 blade with huge ears....like Mickey mouse. it was fine until you load it down with gear, fuel, 4 people and would spin the hub center out while trying to get on plane. I finally switched to a 4 blade Stainless from a company called Prop Tech. not sure they are in business any more. it was 15 3/4 x 17 if i recall. it was a fine prop and had great low end. you will suffer on the top end, so pretty much give up the speed boat idea. These boats will go about 30-32 mph tops. also, keep in mind, Stainless is much worse for galvanic corrosion than aluminum.

Stan -
Cherokee guy has a 270 dancer with a single 454 and trs outdrive. That boat also has a borg warner trans. since the trs has no shifting in the drive itself (so i was told). He (cherokee guy) said that his boat gets on plane without too much of a struggle, and the top end is in the low 30's - not too bad. He also said that the TRS is expensive to repair and the props can be hard to find. One other thing, not a big deal here in the great lakes, but that boat with that big long outdrive drafts a lot of water.
