268DA and Weekenders

lime4x4,
When they rebuilt the transom, did they not support the boat properly? It sounds like they formed a wallow in the hull when it was rebuilt.

I rebuilt it. The boat was properly supported. I probably removed close to 720 lbs of wet wood and foam from the stern and bilge area. I weighed the boat prior to the repair and after. The difference was 720 lbs.

Wow, I'll bet my boat will feel the same way. I ripped out everything from the transom up through the aft cabin. The wood/foam was absolutely saturated.

I figured the extra glass we are putting in to strengthen the boat would weigh it back down, but probably not. I can't wait to see how she feels all solid again.

Well the new fiberglass and epoxy weigh less and is much stronger then the vinyl resin that was originally used on these boats. There is a pretty long thread on this board about handling issues with the 268's. Never had any issues like that till after the rebuild.

I would think it would be a bigger problem with a small block than with a big block or twins these are heavy boats and need to be balanced pretty well or there will be handling problems due to the V hull. On Mine I could have used more weight in the bow to plane faster but I did have some rot in the starboard shelf area I would assume it was in other areas also. The transom looked like some body injected some rid rot in it but that is some one else’s problem now.

Yea, this thread hasn't done much in a while, there are so many little mini-268 threads going on.

I guess I have one for this group.

As far the A/C is concerned, who has it channeled to the foward V-Berth...and how does it get there? PICS would be greatly appreciated!

268 da owner here I love the boat so far and I cant wait for boating season this year

Wow,hope the new owner does not read this.....

Here's another little project, Add a ac/dc tv this week. Mounting a 19 inch in bow just below the mirrior. Also. fixing the refer. which quit last year, new step pump, micro wave, and lawrance HD-7. Getting ready for a week or so of live on next week on the coast...(Galveston area):smt001

Are you talking right up in the nose under the rope locker? Is there enough room there under the mirror for a 19"?

Just curious....I haven't really considered that spot for our TV. Of course....I haven't seen the interior of our boat since last October. :-(

I'm putting ours on the wall right above the aft cabin entry way. I found a pretty thin 17" and bought a flat mount bracket for it so it shouldn't stick out too far from the wall and be a head or shoulder knocker. I HOPE! :)

The buyer was the mechanic that was going to do the repairs and since I sold it to him for 2k I don't think he had a problem with it.
I would think he wouldn't, sounds like more than a reasonable price to me.Good luck in your search for your next toy.(watch out for punky wood).

On my 89 268 I have all three batteries located on the starboard side. Were they set-up this way from the factory? It looks like the previous owner may have had one battery on the port side at some point in time but I'm not exactly sure- Currently I have a water heater over there as well as a fresh water tank so things would be tight with an additional battery.
I have a slight starboard side list which I wouldn't mind correcting if not a big hassle.

My batteries are on the port side from the factory along with the water heater and fresh water tank. I think they did this to counteract the weight of the kitchen/bath. My boat sits level in the water.

Here is a shot of the port side of my engine compartment with the water heater and water tank. How is your boat configured differently to make room for three batteries? I certainly don't have that kind of room right now.

The batteries are port side right next to the engine:

Very clean, is that the factory location? Also, how are the batteries kept horizontal when they are mounted on the "V"?

Very, very clean engine compartment. I like it!!
