Negotiating for a new Sundeck and would like some advice on pricing

Coming up with a price of 78K which seems high to me (recently sold my 320) as we have decided just to stay local.

Anyway equipment includes

Merc 350MAG w Bravo III
Docking Lights
Optional Interior
Trim Tabs
Pump Out Head

A few other things but that is roughly it.

Any thoughts please. Thank you.

The admiral and I stopped by our local dealer just last week and saw the new 260. I must say it's the first new Sundeck that I've liked as much as or more than my '04 Sundeck 240.

Have you gone to searay.com and used their "Design your next Sea Ray" feature, which will show you the MSRP of the boat? I priced one, and with the options you're looking at it'll top $90,000 (gasp!).

I've always been told to plan on 30% discount from the MSRP on a new boat (but haven't actually bought a new boat myself since 2000 so perhaps that has changed) For a $90k Sundeck 240, that works out to roughly $63k plus tax on the 260. Based on that alone, especially in a buyer's market, I'd say $78k sounds high. I don't know what availability is like with the new ones, so that might be a factor as well. Was that price with a trailer?

Good luck. As you know from your 320, you can't go wrong with a Sea Ray and their Sundecks are rock-solid.

Thanks for the reply. We ended up doing a deal on a further upgraded boat to include Trib Tabs, upgraded stero, and added a Garmiin 526, Horizon Eclipse VHF, Rod Holders and a few other goodies including 6 year warranty. They tell me they made a 9% margin when their target is 20% but who really knows. Final price was about 70K. Also get a few thousand back from Costco as part of this deal as they have some partnership with each other now.

I will really miss the 320 but our boating needs have changed and spending all that money to maintain, slip, etc etc etc every year no longer made any sense to us. Our fourth SeaRay!

Thanks again.

Good deal! Glad you were able to work it out. If you ended up near 70k with all the additional goodies, that does work out to roughly 30% off MSRP. Interesting. If true, you can't blame them for making a 9% margin...gotta keep the lights on at the dealerships.

Let us know how the new 260 is on the water!

while I am happy to have them make as little margin as possible, 9% (if true) seems reasonable to me, though not likely to shareholders. I take delivery next Saturday and will report back.

Thank you.

I have a 2011 260 Sundeck and I can say without a doubt that this boat is simple great! Got it in mid march and we now have just over 50 hrs on her. Can't say enough good things about this boat and Searay

I took her out yesterday on a sea trial and closed today. Picking her up on Saturday am. I need some time to get used to the single engine again coming off twin screws. So the funny thing is the horn did not work on the trial as they had sprayed the boat down before the trial. They are replacing the horn but I did see postings about similar problems with other boats. Also interestingly the boat had a governor on it that would not let me take the boat past 3500 RPM. No blowing an engine here I guess.

If you couldn't get past 3500 rpm's in a brand new boat I would be very concerned. The engine guardian system only slows the engine when there is a problem. If you couldn't get up to wot on a sea trial then what kind of a sea trial was it. I would have the engine checked out because you should be between 4800-5200 rpm running wide open.

I'm with Blaster on this one. I am not aware of governors on boats. You should be able to reach the recommended WOT for that engine. Something doesn't sound right.

How many hours on the engine? I seem to remember something about under 10 hours, no WOT????

Your correct my manual states you should not exceed 3/4 throttle for the first 10 hours. I'm not trying to pass off bad info just stating that hitting the wall at 3500 rpm's implies some sort of problem. I have been told by some that short bursts at wot will help seat the rings as long as you don't run it more than a couple seconds. I have heard a lot of talk on both sides of the break in issue and while I haven't experienced any harm from doing this it is best to follow the manufactures instructions. Mercury has to cover their bases so when some idiot gets a new package and runs it hard from the get go they are not responsible for the problems which can occur from improper seating of the rings. Even at 3/4 throttle he should be past 3500 rpm's though.

The problem had something to do with the Catalytic Converter I was told. Parts replaced and took it back out today and all was good.

That's great and congratulations on the new boat. I'm sure you will have lots of fun with it.

Did they say what failed in the catalytic converter? I specifically purchased a model without one not only to avoid the added expense but also problems like this. I think the greenie weenies in the government got this one wrong as the costs don't seem to outweigh the benefits.

Hmm. I need to see if mine has a cat. I don't think so.
The 4.3 mpi ect just came out so you should be good. In the future though unless its a repower it is certain all marine gasoline io's will have these stupid things.

I have got my 320 up for sale currently for exactly the same reasons you cited above. We plan on moving to Scottsdale AZ as soon as we sell our house and I will be boating on a 5 mile long lake out there. I am looking at other brands besides Sea Ray in the 22'-24' size because Sea Rays are the most expensive with the exception of Cobalt. I'll check what I can do through Costco like you did to see if it will bring one within my price point. Good luck and congrats on your new boat.

Thanks. To be honest they did say what the issue was but I just do not recall. I do recall they were pretty annoyed at Searay about it though as they said it was something like the 10th boat they have seen with the same problem. I will ask again. Pick up day tomorrow so pretty excited here.
