First time boater. Have a 2012 260 Sundeck with factory installed snap fastened carpeting. Since it's a bowrider, the boat is completely open (apart from shade from the biminis when opened) when the canvas is off and being used. Boat is in south Florida on my lift, always covered when not used. I've had a couple of suggestions to simply remove the carpeting and a couple of others to leave it in place. Seems like it's a sand collector and it interferes with washing the interior down with fresh water after each use. Appreciate any comments, pro and con.

I think the carpet might make for a little bit quieter ride but... I've had mine in for just a few times and have noticed it is a serious collector of anything near the boat and maybe another thing to worry about drying out after a few swimmers get in and out or a sudden afternoon rain. It's so much easier to keep clean with the carpets out.

My cockpit carpet was in the boat on the day I took ownership, and never since. I'm sure the next owner will enjoy it. It looks impressive rolled up in the house crawl space though!

Too hard to keep clean, and keep dry, plus with it removed you can just hose down the deck if (more like when) it gets dirty.

There you go.

Maybe one thing good I can say about having the carpet in is that it is harder to slip on when wet or damp then the bare floor, but then you have to deal with carpet that is wet or damp. You just can't win.

Take it out if it gets soaked with salt water it will stink. I took mine out day one and never looked back. If I had ordered the boat I would have requested no carpet so I would not even have the snaps. The boat does drain into the bilge so it is a good idea to remove the plug and let it drain completly after your hose it down. I have the guys at the dry stack remove the plug when they flush the motor and it keeps the water out of the boat.

My carpets from the cockpit and flybridge came out the first summer and haven't gone back in. Same thing with the 330 I had before. PITA cleaning up the black crap that peels off the back.

Imho
saltwater out
Freshwater in
Bunch of watersports and wet kids out
Old farts cruising in

Wow! Multiple responses, all the same, within minutes. You guys have convinced me. Carpet goes next visit down! So why doesn't the dealer suggest that when we take delivery? Sorry, not a serious question, no answer requested. Just talking/thinking out loud.

I just put carpeting in my boat. Bought indoor/outdoor at Home Depot and spent a whopping $45 on it. Dark red to match accents colors and to hide the dirt. We have a white floor that showed everything and always looked dirty. Also feels better under your tootsies. Mine just lays there with some Velcro on corners, comes right out if need be. But I'm in freshwater only.

Carpet in if you have a dog. My lab slips and slides without the carpet. I would also seal the black foam backing if you haven't already done so. I used plasti dip, others use bed liner. It takes care of the little black dust issue for sure.

I agree with Chuck1. Water sports or a lot of kids on the boat going in and out of the water - carpet is out
A sunset cruise with some adult beverages - carpet is in.

I keep my boat on a lift as well and most of the time the carpet is in BUT I always take it out at the end of the day and either let it dry (if it got wet) or roll it up and store it in the cabin. I like the feel of it under your feet and to me makes the boat look nicer. I bought new carpet when I got the boat and by taking it out every time I don't have a problem with the black underlayment coming off.

We have. 240 Sundeck and the original carpet deteriorated. While waiting for it to be replaced, we took the boat out without carpet. I founf bare feet and Houston based gel-coat very uncomfortable. I much prefer the carpet.

After a hard day of boating in salt or fresh water, I elevate the trailer tongue for draining and flood the carpet with clean water and let it dry out before covering.

Works good for us and is more comfortable.

Also, out new carpet has a much more durable back that should shred.
