260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

Hi Everyone,

I'm about to purchase a 2006 loaded with Generator 260DA and a triple axle trailer with hydraulic brakes. I thought was a good price and now a little concnerned as my finance company looked ad some values and not showing near what we agreed upon which was 66 thousand.

here is the link to the boat on boat trader.

http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2006-Sea-Ray-260-Sundancer-96916299

seems like it has a lot of options and having it checked at a local marina for everything including the alignment, condition, and everything you can think of...probably going to take them 4 - 5hours and a sea trial too.

I just had to get my 05 260 with all your options refi"d due to a divorce situation. PM me and I'll tell you what I purchased her for and the following will make sense. I had a TOUGH time getting the loan redone into my name only. With my road king triple axle I was finally able to get my local bank after I met with the branch manager and BEGGED him to redo the loan. My biggest problems were the loan to value which included the trailer. I purchased the boat with 30 min. on it.
Some of the reasons I was given from some banks were, "we have been taking too many losses on repo" and "we are too leveraged in boat loans and are worried due to economy", etc., etc.

I'll PM you and give you some more details.

medic - i have been experiencing the same thing with lenders this week. we finally got it figured out this afternoon but not after a full week of struggle. Honestly my wife and i have nothing on our credit history that would make it hard for us to get a loan. we also but a decent chunk down on down payment yet it was still near impossible to get a loan. banks need to start f'n lending again.

Blame it on all those tirds that defaulted on their loans and now those of us that pay our bills have to suffer. Don't get me started on this subject..............................I may never shutup!

Good Luck with your loan!

Does anyone know what the weight is of the standard plow anchor on our boats?

I am considering purchasing a stainless anchor and am not sure whether to buy a 15.5 pound or 22 pound anchor.

Dave, according to Sea Ray, standard issue was a 25lb plow.

HI Guys,

actually, I'm working with a company that searches the best rates and actually got at 6.3% and the bank financed the entire boat with no problems. it was super easy to work with and only took 1 day to get the approval letter and they will handle all the US Coast Guard documentation.

If anyone is interested in getting her information, feel free to contact me.

By the way, the 260 checked out and the survey was perfect. should have the boat next week!!

Glad to hear that Tim. It will be nice to have another 260DA at the Marina and if you have any questions or need any tips or pointers just give me a holler.

Dave

Thanks Dave! can't wait to get her. Should be this thursday for delivery...they are driving it up from GA for us...

I'm going to have a boat renaming party, hopefully should be very soon...make sure the water gods are good to her. "Carolina Buckeye" is going to be the name.

Glad to be part of the 260 / cruisers crew at lake wylie, I met Greg and his wife at the last marina cookout.

What a great first weekend with the 260!! Weather was great most of the weekend. Dumb question, how do you tell what the fresh water tank level is?

One problem we did have, the windlass is broke. If you dont use it for awhile it will work for a minute or so. Then it starts blowing breakers. The box still sounds like it is clicking. I think something in the motor is binding and popping the switch. I tried to manually loosen the top of the windlass but i couldnt even get it to budge. Not sure what to do.

Peek-a-boo, I see you.

Can't help on the windlass issue, Justin - never had one apart.

Justin

Put up a seperate post on the Windlass problem in the General Discussion area. There are a lot of boat owners (but not me) who have windlasses and have had problems that will respond and be of assistance.

Open up your engine hatch and take a peak. Unfortunately that is the only way. There is an idicator for the holding tank however, but that only works half the time.

Hey All,

now that I have the 260 coming this thursday hopefully and it comes with a triple axle trailer. What is the least type of truck I would need to pull it with and where would i be able to rent one? I haven't seen many trucks at enterprise or hertz :)

It will be in the wet slip but would like to travel with it occasionally to different lakes.

Thanks!

You may want to put this post in the trailering section. The dry weight is 7500 +/- on the 260. If it is full of gas, that is about another 500 lbs. That tri-axle trailer is probably 2500-3000lbs. You can get the model and check with the manufacturer. I would think a dual axle trailer would be more appropriate for a 260 and weigh a good bit less but you would need to check capacities to be sure.

With that said, you may be able to tow it with a newer F150/Silverado 1500/etc if you can get the trailer weight down close to 2K lbs. Most of those advertise a towing capacity of around 10K pounds. Any more than that and a F250/2500 will be required. You may be able to pull it physically with less but your drivetrain and suspension will suffer along with obvious safety concerns of overloading.

However you end up you just need to reference towing specs by year/model tow vehicle you are looking at. Each manufacturer seems to nudge up their towing capacity each year by 200lbs or so they can say they have the highest towing capacity for that model year.

Oh and by the way, let me know and I will talk to you about where to rent a tow vehicle around us. Enterprise, Hertz, etc. told me the will NOT rent a vehicle to tow ANYTHING unless you have commercial insurance. Trust me I have called everyone. There is a local shop that allow it.

I previously had a 97 250 which sat lower to the water. The boat wasn't that fast with a 250hp Merc but I never had the issues I'm having driving my new 07 260.

The 260 is 1-2 ft longer in size and also has a generator but has a 300hp. Obviously with the generator and ppl on board, she's slow to the gates when getting on plane which I'm ok with, but I seem to have to play with the trim tabs alot more than I did on the 97 and also when driving, the handling was alot better on the 97.

I'm thinking btwn the larger boat and how it sits higher on the water that I might have some of these issues but it's as if turning isn't easy while cruising. If i turn the wheel to turn the boat more, the boat is on more of an angle than I would expect and have experienced in the past. The tossing of the left to right in choppy water seems alot more with this one also. I've been cruising ~3800 RPMs at around 21knots. If i push it more, it seems even worse. I want to be able to cruise and enjoy myself rather be stressing out about why the boats handeling so poorly.

Not sure if i just need to get used to driving the boat and how it handles being it's the largest size you really would ever get with a single screw or there could be something else. I'm hoping to hear that others have the same experiences and feelings and just takes some getting used to driving.

Any feed back of experiences or anyone that might have a clue about what I'm saying (if above makes any sense at all), would appreciate it

I just bought a 1979 260 sundancer and it's in great shape. Problem is, I don't have a clue where to start with all the switches and things. New to this size of boat. I downloaded the owner's manual but it doesn't really answer my question. How about some tips on this boat? One question I have is how to get rid of the nasty looking water in the water tank. Not sure how much is in there but it's pretty bad. What type of hose connects to it and how does it empty? Thanks for any assistance.
