260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

I just bought a 2007 260DA and I'm looking to upgrade my electronics. I think I'd like a Touch Screen but heard it's difficult to press exactly what you want in choppy waters so right now btwn the touch and buttons?

Also wondering if anyone has any pics of other places they mounted their chartplotters on the helm other than the lower left where you can flush mount it. I find it very difficult to see while standing as you constantly need to look down not to mention sit down each time you want to play around with it making it extremely difficult to use out on the water. Not sure why anyone would want it there.
Also flushmounting it there gives no choices in screen size. My installer recommended only a 7inch given the lack of room on the helm but I want a bigger screen that.

Any suggestions of what unit to and not to get? Thinking of going with a Garmin

Thanks for any feed back

Thanks...I'll read through that. I actually have a factory installed GPS there now but I have to sit to use it and can barely see it when Im standing and driving. I'm a pretty tall guy so finding a location on top of the helm i think is ideal for me. Was even looking at maybe what I could do with a Nav Pod

Well, my right arm is sore as h*ll but the hull looks good. We're almost ready for launch on Monday. The admiral just has to load the bedding and personal junk and we get wet.

I did my blue hull on Monday as well so I know how you feel. :smt101

Question for you Dave.....do you use a compound selectively on areas that have fender scuff marks before you polish, or do you just use a polish or wax with a light compound in it?

I compound the entire hull first with a buffer and then apply the polish by hand. That takes care of everything. Nothing special is done for scuff marks (and I usually don't have any.)

I just spent the weekend looking at how other people mounted thier radome. I saw a few that looked like it was mounted on a sheetmetal mount about 3-4" tall with a tail to remount the fold down all around light mast. I have searched the internet like crazy looking for this mount and can't find it. Anyone know where I can find one?

The mounts, lightbars, etc are all sold a-la-cart. Here is one brand, SeaView you can check out... http://www.seaviewglobal.com/en/categories/300000002

Bjac,

I notice you use a rotary buffer on your hull. I usually use an orbital but was thinking about getting a rotary. Any tips for its use and the type of wax/compound you utilize? I have a boat exactly like yours.

Thankx

I have the same boat, same colors.
I use Meguiars #67 for the white parts, applied with a buffer, removed by hand.
For the Blue Hull, I used Starbrite Marine Polish PTEF, then two coats of Meguiars Flagship Cleaner Wax both applied with Makita 9227C.
Great results....

I boat on the Chesapeake Bay (brackage water) and they boat is still looking great.

Good Luck,

First I started with a good soapy scrubbing to get all the sand and surface dirt off. I then used 3M's Marine Colour Restorer by hand on all the spots where there were fine scratches from fender rubs etc.
I finished the entire hull with Meguiars Flagship Premium Marine Wax. The rotary polisher is a simple little unit I picked up at the hardware store for around $90. It has a speed control on the handle for keeping the rotation down.
I applied the wax with the rotary and waited until it hazed up a little. I then changed to a buffer pad and polished it to a high shine. I was more than pleased with the outcome.

I have recently discovered a leak in the aft cabin and it only gets wet right were you crawl in beside the electronics cupboard. I have tried all afternoon to get the access panel off without success. Have any of you removed this panel.

It is the large wall panel on the port side of the aft cabin from the electronic panel back to the rear wall. You have to remove this panel in order to get the lower material covered panel out to expose the water lines.

Hi Everyone,

I'm about to purchase a 2006 loaded with Generator 260DA and a triple axle trailer with hydraulic brakes. I thought was a good price and now a little concnerned as my finance company looked ad some values and not showing near what we agreed upon which was 66 thousand.

here is the link to the boat on boat trader.

seems like it has a lot of options and having it checked at a local marina for everything including the alignment, condition, and everything you can think of...probably going to take them 4 - 5hours and a sea trial too.

I had mine off when I wired in my bilge heater. You first have to remove the L-shaped piece that runs across the back of the mid cabin. And you also have to remove some of the overhead trim by the opening into the mid-cabin as I recall. You then pull that side panel off starting at the rear of the mid cabin. It is very tight and takes quite a bit of tugging to get it to come off.

Having said that, can you explain a bit more about your leak because I wonder whether that will really help to pull that panel off. Does it leak when it rains? Is your cockpit covered? And lastly take a look at this old posting of mine where I discussed water leaks I was having on my 260DA. http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5575&highlight=leaks

Hey Dave:

I finally got the panel off and traced the leak. I had to remove the panel because that was the first location that the water actually accumulated below on the floor of the mid-cabin. Turns out the leak was coming from the forward port window. The trickle ran down the 3" flat fiberglass seam along the port side behind the galley cupboards and then caught the water feed lines from the fresh water tank only to drip down right at the entrance to the mid-cabin.

Once I sealed the window a little on the outside..........dry again......no more wet spots. I can sleep again. (without the worry).
