260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

At the risk of having missed it after some searching, has anyone with a 260 installed a large format MFD (10-12") on their 260? I have a small 5" unit flush mounted in the dash, but would like to add a 2nd networked unit but do not like any of the options I can dream up for it. Looking not only for location, but mounting hardware used as well.

If so can you post some pix...

Thanks,

Anyone replace cabin, arch, or anchor lights with LEDs on a 2005 - 2008 series 260?

If so, can you give details on sizes, experiences and where you bought the bulbs?

Thanks

There's actually a number of threads with this info in it. Limiting your interest to the '05-'09 260DA won't help you -- the lights used on your boat are the same as used on many others. Also, sometimes Sea Ray changes the style of light used during the model year... meaning an '05 260DA may have different lights/bulbs than an '07 (although, this is less likely the case).

Basically, all you have to do is go a site like Super Bright LEDs and match up your specific bulb to what you want.

Here's one thread that may give you some more info: http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24551&highlight=led+lights

Boy, that's a pretty big screen to mount on a pocket cruiser. In all my years working at marinas, I honestly can't recall someone putting that size unit on a boat of your size. Not saying it hasn't been done, but I would think that it would certainly limit your visibility (as I'm sure you've already imagined). However, I think it would be a great idea to see if you can get it to work.

I guess one idea would be to use a RAM mount - with the base mounted low - so the screen doesn't stick up too high? Maybe putting the RAM base to the left of the steering wheel (relocating the spotlight control, if you have that) and then also relocating the ignition switch and radio remote. It would probably cover up some of your SC gauge, although that info could be shown on your plotter.

Maybe, maybe, it would even be possible to mount the screen using it's OEM bracket - mount the bracket where your radio remote and key switch is located.

I dunno - your question is a toughie! :smt001

Thanks,

What you need uis the dash from a 270AJ. Why they did not put these into the 260DA as well is mystery to me since they are the same boat with a different cockpit layout. Maybe you can find one at a salvage yard.

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here. We are shopping for a boat right now and looked at the 240 and 260 yesterday at the Marine Max dealer in Lewisville, TX. Price aside, our main concern is the fact that the 240 does not have AC on the water only at the dock. We have a 3 year old and a 1 1/2 year old that will want naps while we are out. Do you all know if it is just too unbearable down there without AC or if its really not that bad? This is TX.... so if you aren't from here, you might not care about that but it gets suffocatingly hot, even on the water. Thoughts? Comments?.... Give it up!!! LOL... glad to be here thanks! OH... have owned a Sea Ray ski boat and a Mastercraft 205 in the past and runabouts and ski boats are the only thing I know anything about....

I would like to add a radar arch to my 2002 260 DA. Any thoughts on how to get my hands on an appropriate one for my year and model? Is it just a bolt on?

Hey fellow Texan on Lewisville... or soon to be. I have a 260 Sundancer WITH AC and generator (you have to have the generator to run the AC on the water). We considered the 240 but decided on the 260 for your exact reason. And are we glad we did. It gets way to hot in the summer here not to have AC. Some do it - not me. 110 is a killer.

I would say YES to the generator. It gets hot as well as humid here and I know wouldn't want to try to nap in the cabin without it. Kiddos that have a good nap make them a whole lot happier boaters which makes happy parents too. Also it would be a better selling point in Texas when you decide to upgrade. I would get one of those baby monitors and put one in the cabin and one on the swim deck while your out in the water enjoying the sun. (If it ever gets here)

Yeah, that's why my consternation on this. I like the ScanPod's over the RAM mount setups and the factory bracket is a POS. But the real issue is where to put... I've been toying with the idea of mounting it as my "cockpit" TV either by the sink or behind the captain's chair. Then with video piped to it, I can use it as the TV and when necessary a secondary nav display off to the side.

Now that would work nicely?:thumbsup::thumbsup: We got jipped by SR...

I can't speak to your area, but as far as A/C itself goes, two thoughts.. 1.) I personally require it. Boating in FL there are days on the water, where the breaze is not enough to keep the cabin cool and A/C is the only answer. 2.) That being said, how will you run it away from the dock? You see A/C requires you to have a genny.. so if either boat does not have a genny, you will only have A/C while at the dock.

Yeah, I agree that the factory bracket is little hokey looking.

OK, I understand you better, now. Have you seen some of the posts from Hampton (and others) who mounted a TV in their cockpit? They basically mounted it on a pole that then was attached to a flat area - in your case, like you mentioned, either the sink area or behind your seat. I would think the sink area would be a better choice as it would allow more people to see it. Maybe even to the arch (if you have that)?

Your current GPS doesn't, by any chance, have the capability to hook up to an external monitor, does it? I'm just thinking that if it did, you could actually use a TV instead of another GPS.

No, my current unit doesn't provide video out. :smt089 The biggest I could fit in the dash was the 3205. The 3206, which has video out won't fit. I picked up a 3010c from a friend (a gift). I'm adding XM Weather and would like to add radar, and feel that the 3205 will be a bit small for all that data. Especially since the 3205 only refreshes the radar after each complete pass, rather than incrementally.

Yeah, I've seen the Cockpit TV posts. The only dawback I see with those SR stands is they do not provide cable management, which is why I like the ScanPods. With an MFD I'll have 3 cables to run (Power, Data, Video). So I'm thinking of mouting it on the arch over the sink, but with a custom made mount that will allow me to run the cables inside the mount.

Those Pods are nice. But, do you think it would cause everything to stick out too far - sort of "bulbous" looking? I looked on their site, and it doesn't appear to do that, but I couldn't find a good picture to get a clear idea - maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

Any chance the 3010 would fit in your arch by itself? IIRC, there's a speaker already there - but it can be moved.

I wonder if a hole could be drilled into the SR pole mount (or make your own) to be able to run the cables inside the pole, through the base, and through a hole in the fiberglass (hidden by the base piece)? I'm not trying to push this particular way - just offering ideas.

That's a pretty good "gift"! How come I never get gifts like that?! :smt009

All great ideas. Yes the ScanPod is a bit "bulbous". I downloaded the spec sheet with gives a wireframe of it's dimensions. The ScanPod would be an option at the helm if I'm willing to sacrifice view and esthetics, but I'm too anal to allow that...

It could fit in the arch itself, but would leave a big hole if ever removed :smt009. I was also thinking I want it to swivel so I can watch TV from aft, or point it forward for nav situations where I want "more data". Also by doing a mount I can make it VESA compatible so It could always be swapped out for a real TV if ever that was an issue.

So I've kinda convinced myself to install a custom TV mount, put a "small TV" wannabee on it for those topside TV times, that doubles as a secondary nav screen in an awkward location for the Captain. :smt021 But then again, the Admiral is constantly bugging me for water depth and temperature readings while underway, so this could serve to give her her own heads up display and leave me in peace on that issue...

I don't think you'll find one but if you do let me know if you find two. I've looked.

Hi All,
I purchased a brand new '08 260da last year. It was a leftover at the dealer and too good of a deal to pass up. Love the boat. It fits the wife and kids perfectly. We keep it in the 1000 islands in Upstate NY. Any major work I am having the dealer handle. The minor stuff I am trying to do myself. I am getting ready for the upcoming season and was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks on changing the oil. Is the Merc Quicksilver 25w40 still the oil of choice for the newer engines? I believe I have the 6.2 litre sea core set up but it's been a long winter ;-). My manual is still in the boat shrink wrapped. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I Talked to a fabricator today that I think can do what I want. I am thinking about adding something like this. What do you think?
