260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

Hi all, I just bought a 2006 260 and love it. Only thing missing is AC, has anyone installed AC on their 260?

THanks,

I know many have it, but I'm not sure how many have added it. Except for this last week(temps at or near 100) we don't need it. I did install a heater though. An A/C unit shouldn't be much more difficult. I installed my unit behind the starboard side panel in the mid-berth. There is a sizeable void there designed for the heater or A/C. You should be able to do it relatively easily.....except for some of the yoga positions.

Good luck.

aHoy,The ac issue is comfort point and we boat for the fun so yah I'll have to go to westmarine and buy the carry-on unit that works over forward hatch too. to add the unit IN the boat would be $$$$ and only used when sleeping onboard???
The unit can be left home when not needed also $ave ga$ on boat" keep her lite"

I have a family of five, youngest is 6. Has anyone looked at making a small bunk style bed over the main V-berth. Anyone done or seen anything like this? I really don't want to modify the boat, prefer something that is not permanent.

Thanks All

Related question.. my 260 has ac and heat. This will be our first winter season (winter here means a cold day is 40-50) and we were wondering.... we know that AC requires shore power. Since the heater uses a heat exchanger(I think)... will it still require shorepower or will it run while underway?

yes, it requires shorepower (it's a 110V unit), and I'm assuiming you have the Cruisair unit in yours

yup - Cruisair. There was no manual for the boat and the 2003 manuals are not on SeaRay's site so we're playing "push that button - see what happens" alot :)

You can download the owners manual from Sea Ray's web site. Right click this link and "save target as" http://www.searay.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/Company1729/1C1_23_74DEJAK0M33.pdf

It's probably a bit warmer in Wilmington in the winter than it is in Charlotte but your hot water heater should be OK even with water in it. I use a bilge heater in my boat but that also requires shore power. Don't foget to drain any water lines that are above deck like your cockpit faucet and dockside fill in the lazarette because those may freeze.

I will be happy to be a part of this thread. Just got mine 4 weeks ago.

What batteries do everyone have on their 260's? We will have to change our 2 lead-acid batteries in the off-season and wanted to see what everyone else has before deciding to stay with the lead-acid or to go for the deep cycle or AGM batteries.

I thought about posting this question as a separate thread but wanted to keep the focus of responses from other 260 DA owners rather than from the CSR group at large.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Regards,
Alicia

So how high of the road is the keel at the centerline of the arch?

Sorry for the delayed responce

Not an exact measuremetn but it looks like 14"-16"

I can fit my big ass under there when cleaning the bottom

I am in the process of changing batteries as well. I think that I am going to stick with wet cells for now. My boat came with 2 group 27 deep cycles in it. One of them just recently started acting up (short life running fridge and stereo). I already bought one group 27 deep cycle / starting and am getting ready to buy 2 new group 27 deep cycles. I am going to add a 3rd battery tray and make the starting battery #1 on the switch. Battery #2 will be the 2 new deep cycles in parallel together. I was going to go with AGMs, but I couldn't see spending $600+ for 3 AGMs plus new tray and cables when I can get 3 wet cells and the new hardware I need for less than $300. If the new wet cells go 3 seasons like the current ones have, I can replace all 3 batteries again in 3 years for $240 and still be at less than $600. The real question for me was, would 3 AGMs last longer than 2 sets of fresh batteries? In my opinion, the answer is no.

For those of you with an 05 or newer 260, how were your batteries set up when you got your boat? How many? What group & type? Where were they mounted? Mine are located on the starboard side behind the holding tank and in front of the hatch lift strut. I think I will have to move the original 2 trays slightly to get the 3rd one in.

Two lead acid batteries located starboard side behind the waste tank. Have served my boat well and will probably replace with the same. Lead cid. For hte money not worth it for hte AGM's in my opinion. Cost ratio to benifit just not there

I also have 2- Group 27 Interstate Deep Cycle Marine batteries. They're only 2 years old now and seem to be doing well, but I'd like to add another like Michael (SkiBum) to the house side. I've also considered when these die going with AGMs but they are quite pricey.

I have (2) wet cells. (1) 24 and (1) 27.

Michael, placement of batteries are not always in the same position as it depends on options installed in the engine bay. But, certainly you can move them. Just don't go much further away without increasing the cable size.

Thanks Dennis. I'm pretty sure mine are where the generator would normally be mounted in an 05.

I was kinda hoping that someone with an 05 configured like mine would chime in with an exact location for the 3rd battery that involved no extra work and also miraculously makes the boat run flat and level all the time without ever touching a tab. :smt001

Oh well... That ain't gonna happen. :smt089

I have to get down there and measure the area, but it looks like I might be able to fit battery tray #3 in if I move both of the others a couple of inches fore or aft and put them a little closer together.
