My transom shower work pretty good. There is a small button on the handle so you can turn the water on and off at the handle. Check that it may just be hung in between the on and off position on the handle.

Hi Brent!

Tried that. Pulled the On-OFF pin out completely and water came shooting out fine! Put the pin back in and slid it so the groove lines up with the waterway and it should stream out - no such luck - in any position. It doesn't even shut the water off completely. Very poor design. :smt021 Al the tech was baffled also. :smt101

Has anyone with the smart craft set up had issues with the power trim reading bouncing around while running. My dealer says that the digital smart craft is a direct read out of the power trim gague and not tied independently to the power trim itself. That makes since, but the gague read out seems to stay put, while the smart craft bounces all around...4...5,6...6,5,4,3....3,4....Not to metion it is bothersome when you are attempting to view other data, say depth sounder when running a tight channel, and it keeps flashing to the changing power trim level.

Check your trim fluid level. Mine does the same thing on my 240SD when the fluid is low just a little bit. Way to sensitive IMHO.

The sensor in your outdrive is bad because mine does the same thing (at least that's what my Tech told me). I understand it's a common failure because mine reads all over the place as well and the gauge is always wrong. On the next haul-out, it will get replaced.

And you really need to disable that annoying trim pop-up feature on your Smartcraft readings so it doesn't drive you bonkers. Page 2-15 of your Smartcraft Manual expalins how to disable that function.

What Engine Oil Changer (electric pump) system do you use for your 260. I've only looked online so far and most of the dip stick tubes pictured with the systems look way to large in diameter. I have a 350 MAG MPI with a very small I.D. dip stick tube.

Thanks

I use an OIL BOY pump like this one. It has a hose that screws right onto the top of the dipstick. A couple of pumps on the handle to create a vacuum is all it takes and the oil will empty right out into the container which you then take to your local recycler and dump.

Mine was doing the same thing, but there can't be anything wrong with my trim indicators or anything because all that crap was just replaced. I just shut it off because I was sick of watching it flicker all over the place.

My power trim reading has just started do the same thing as well as the analog guage. The tech said the same thing on mine, bad sensor on the outdrive.

Thanks for the info to change the pop up feature on the depth and trim ajustment. It drives me crazy:smt101.

Thanks for the feed back...I did change the smartcraft setting so it doesn't pop up anymore...That makes it a little less anoying.

Dipstick pumps usually leave some of the REAL nasty oil in the bottom of the pan....sometimes a whole quart. The best way to change the oil is to order the oil pan drain plug tube, swap out your regular drain pan plug, and then you then snake the tube out your bilge drain plug when you want to change. Its lower than your engine. You do have to have the boat out, of course, to change oil like this and it does take a little longer than sucking. 496HO's come standard with the tube....its just hidden under the engine cowling. Otherwise you just order from merc. But to each his own.

Arch vs. No arch..........

I seem to be limited, for boat lift/dock clearance issues, to a non arch 260. Anybody have one? Anything the arch'ed 260's have that the non arch'ed 260's dont.....but should have or need?

Thx

I don't have an arch. It's nice for having an open cockpit and low clearance, but we still have the biminis up. I'd like the arch simply because I'd like to have the GPS and VHF antennas there.
I would have to change my canvas set up to add one, but I'll be due to replace canvas in a couple years anyway.
If you buy a boat with one, and don't want the arch let me know.

I didnt know I could just take it off..........?

I would love a boat with one, but the arch will hit my dock roof when I put the boat up on my boat lift.

Does anyone know if you can get a fitted winter cover for the 260 with a radar arch. I have not been able to fine anyone that does covers for boats with arches.

Thanks,
Vince

It would have to be custom made. Do you have a local canvas shop?

Thanks for the input ... I do have a local shop around but i was just hoping that there was a source out there .... Custom means more money.

Yeah but it should look good and last for years if done right.

Best of luck.

Vince - not sure what you mean by "fitted winter cover", but I ordered a cockpit cover (that goes under the arch) from Great Lakes Boat Top. It was like $700, and you have to install the snaps. If that's not what you're talking about - sorry.

For about a grand we had a custom full cover made for our 27 fountain. Made at lake of the ozarks. Covers from under the bow eye, close to the bottom of the boat, and all the way back and down to the out drive. Very easy to put on, no snaps to drill, and heavy duty. Fits tight. The boat came with a regular snap cockpit cover, but this one is so good, covers everything, and is so easy....that I just use it all the time. My boat is always 100% clean when I uncover it now. I would pay the money for a good full cover if I was you. These are expensive toys to have bug die on.
