260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

I would love to hear more about the teak cockpit table option...I asked about this in another thread, and nobody knew anything about it.

Additionally, Ray, do you have any pictures of you cockpit flat panel set up...I've been toying with that idea as a project for this year...Also, tell me more about your sound. That's deffinately happening this year, just a matter of who is doing it. Me or paying someone else.

I contacted SeaRay and they do not have any pictures of the teak table and cockpit sunpad option. It is still an option and can be purchased through a SeaRay dealer. I contacted my closest dealer via email and still have no reply. Send some pics of the new flat panel.

I agree too...I have been thinking about a flat screen for my 260 in the cockpit area. Got the blues while boating knowing March Madness is going on. I thought about putting it on my arch...but seems more secure like described on the sink area.

I'll be interested in where to put the white circular table too. For now, I put it down below in the rear bed. Not a problem, but seems like there should be a beter spot.

I just bought a dancer 260 - 2007. I signed for it last week. Got a great deal on a new 07 with two nice rebates. Sea Ray wants all of the 07 off the lot so they are offering some nice deals on 07. It looks just like Daves. Blue hull and arch. Only main options I didn't get was the generator. I think we will use it this season without. I would appreicate any feedback as far as cost vs usage. Is the Kohler the best generator for this boat? I fought with myself about getting one put on and ebay has the kohler for $5800 and the mechanic at the dealer said about $1200 to install. I guess the question is the $7,000 justified and I guess it gets down to usage.
I am new to CSR but I think it is great! Always good to have a forum that applies to what you enjoy as part of your life. I hope to be an asset to the site and will do my best to help in anyway I can.

Thanks as always, Dave. Nice job! :smt038

Twoiner: I have the 2007 with the Kohler generator. I don't know if this is the best generator, but it fits well in the platform and I like that it's Low CO.

Don't forget to add to the cost a muffler and some other related items (remote start/stop panel, exhaust pipe, through hull, etc.). Not sure if this is included in the $1,200.

Westerbeke also has Low CO models, and I believe they might be smaller in size.

I have about 100 hours on mine and I'm very happy with it.

I would say go this season w/out it and then consider if you need it for next year.

Great idea for storing the cockpit table and pole...In addition to the table storage, I never liked the designated spot for the pole...Good stuff...I'm going to have to relocate my bilge heater to do it on mine...Do you have a heater in yours? If so, where did you set it up at?

I have a Boat Safe heater mounted on the platform for the generator. I don't have a genny.

Here is an easy question for you fellow 260DA guys...

I just purchased a new GPS (535S) and I need to run new wiring from the new thru-hull transducer to the cockpit.

I unscrewed the tray to the right of the cockpit seat and what I see is a mass of wires heading aft going into a gob of sealant. I also see what looks like a plywood wall.

I'm not sure I want to disturb the wiring in the gob of sealant, that is obviously working fine.

I was thinking of: a) drilling a new hole in the plywood and fishing through to the back, or b) trying to fish through one of the the gaps between the plywood and the hull.

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Head Sink Slow to Drain

Ok..new issue. I have noticed that the sink in my head is very slow to drain. As I use just enough water to wash my hands quickly, the water drains at a snails pace. I did not unassemble the hose, but looked at it and squeezed it for all I could see that was exposed. While I don't think I have an obvious clog, and no reason to believe anyone put anything down there. At home I'd just throw some cleaner down the pipes, but know that's not a good thinkg with the plastic tubing. Suggestions?

Doug, Is this a new problem this season? An insect or something got into my cockpit sink drain hose and clogged it last spring. Used an air hose to blow the blockage out and it was fine.

I didn't see this until now. I went through the gob of sealant. Then run your wire and re-gob~o~sealant.

I think you saw my other posts on the install right?

Doug,
I pull a garden hose down to the sink and use a jet nozzle to shoot water through the drain. That seems to work pretty well. Compressed air would probably work well also, but I don't want to haul a compressor down to the boat.

Thanks guys....I'll grab the dock hose tomorrow and give it a blast with the nozzle and see what happens. Hoefully it is a bug or something.

Mine drains slowly as well. Its because of the hookup to the drain system. Here is a picture of how the hoses are routed. All of this stuff drains out thru the big drain opening on the starboard side. You can gain acccess to this area by taking off the small panel in your midcabin on the starboard side. I think the the first hose you see is the one comming from the sink in the head. The other two hoses on the top come from your shower sump and your emergency bilge pump that is under the waste basket. The other hose comming in down below is from the drain that is in the step by the cabin door. Incidentally, mine was crimped real bad and I had to remount the holding strap to straighten it out.

If you continue to experience problems with the drain it might be worthwhile having a look behind your panel to see if any hoses are crimped. All you need is a phillips head screw driver to get the panel off and it would certainly be easy to undo the sink hose and just blow on it to be sure there is no obstruction anywhere.

Has anyone established a max passenger weight to use as a good benchmark they could share for the 260?

Bilge water level question:

Is this too much water in my bilge area? A Marine Max Technician looked at it for me and said this was normal as he manually switched on the float switch - water got pumped out a little lower - and then it all came rushing back into the bilge area from under the bilge pump. He said this was a normal of water to expect for a 260?

This doesn't sound or look right :wow:! Any comments would be appreciated! :smt038

Dave...thanks for the pics. I'll have to check that. I went to the boat today and took the power hose and ran it down the drain. It seemed to help a little bit. Even though it is a small drain hole, sure seems it should drain faster.

As for the water in the bilge issue...my 260 is, and remains, bone dry. When my mechanic replaced the impeller, i had water in there, but I just used a water toy to suck up the excess and a sponge for the rest, and it seems to have done the trip. I would be worried if I had ANY water in there to be honest.

My answer is "that depends". Most of the time mine is bone dry but if we take a lot of people out, say 7 or more, then I almost always have water in the bilge. I theorize that's because the total weight puts the boat lower in the water which occasionally allows some water to back feed thru the bilge hull fitting and into the bilge itself. There is a loop in the hose (in the bilge) that supposedly prevents that but I don't think the loop is big enough to prevent that from happening in some cases. Also if your boat is outside and gets rained on all the time, water could be entering in other ways too.

What I would do first is take a bucket, sponge, and some towels and fully dry up the bilge water and see if it stays dry while sitting st the dock. This will at least tell you if you might have another type of leak from the transducer or thru the outdrive.

Last year my bilge was "bone dry" too, but this year I get about the same level that you show ... I think it is rain water in my case. I suspect some calking has dried out somewhere ... still planning the investigation.
I sucked out all the water with a shop vac and it stayed dry until after the next rain storm. I'm thinking I'll have to go into the engine room while it's raining and look for water drips.
Open to suggestions.
