25 HP Outboard Opinions

The Yamaha has been the best motor I have ever had. I have had Mercs, a Nissan for a week, and a Yamaha 40 4 Stroke from 2001-2008. The motor never had a single issue with it. I changed the oil and drive fluid every season and put gas in it, thats it.

The 40 4 Stroke coupled with a Zodiac Yachtline 380 DL would do 34 mph with me in it alone, and about 28-30 with 5 people. The motor was whisper quiet, no fumes, and the majority of the time you couldn't even tell it was running at idle.

John,

I found out that it is a Merc engine. It's about 15 years old but has very low hours. If you are at all interested I will inquire as to what they would want for it.

If one is to buy things today best to buy items made in North America. If we do not who will buy what we make or use our services. I have 3 Mercs and they all work well a 2.5. 5 and a 20.
not trying to be a dick here but aren't those all tohatsu's with different stickers made in Japan

Thank you, but I'm going to pass. We're going to get a new motor - they're not too expensive and there have been some pretty good mods over the last 10 years or so. Thank you for your time and effort.

I run a 25hp Yamaha 4s also. No probs at all. Silky smooth. Played around with prop sizes and did not notice much of a difference.

I bought the Westmarine AL390; I test drove the 350RIB when they were shooting pics for the last WM catalog.

Just FYI: the interior seemed a little narrow than others.

I agree. They happen to have a 310 and a 350 in our local WM. The 310 is too skinny and flat (no nose rise, 16" tubes). The 350 is too big with huge tubes (18") which leaves a narrow, deep interior. My current Achilles 9'6" LSI has 17" tubes. They are just right (Goldy Lox and all...). We are looking at the Achilles 350 DX (or something like that).
