I have a bad charger for my port side batteries and need to replace it. Does anyone have any knowledge and/experience in tackling this unit?

Check all your connections to battery's and fuses. I had a good electrical mechanic tell me my charger was bad and all it ended up being was one loose connection !!!

As mentioned, look for the inline fuse between the charger and where it ties into the battery bank. My thruster bank charger looked fine - all lights indicating charging - but batteries were completely dead. Ended up being a $0.20 25 amp blade fuse. I nearly spent $1,200 on two new AGM D8 batteries.

With that said, the charger on my starting/house banks - 2005 550(58) DB - started failing last summer. As long as you can find the same brand/model charger, swapping it out is pretty straightforward. Take a picture(s) of the current wiring connections and then remove everything and match it up to your new charger. My boat has a MasterVolt Mass 24/50 charger. It was about $1,100.

Had the exact same fuse blow over the winter layup for our stern thruster as Jeff. Just happened a few weeks ago. I was ready to call Florida Bow Thruster for service and a friend showed me the fuse on top of the battery bank. We replaced one blade fuse and problem was solved.

Thanks for the input. I've checked all fuses and they appear to be in working order. The DC AMP & DC Volt meters on the chargers show no activity even with a large load running. Power switch light is on and all battery connector were replaced and tightened. Looks like I'll have to replace the charger.

Removed my 24V charger to replace with an inverter last year. Came out of my '03 480DB. Used for the bow thruster batteries. Unit works perfectly. Let me know if you are interested. Dave
