240DA anchor roller and windlass

Hi everybody, I'm new to the forum. The wife and I have an 08 model 240DA.

Our boat didn't come with an anchor roller and I would eventually like to add a windlass at some point. I talked to the dealer and they said the OEM anchor roller retails for around $800. Yikes!

I would like one that looks OEM and angles down as it comes off the bow. I found this on ebay and was hoping you guys could give me some more options. Also, what would I do about the marker light on the bow? Thanks!

What does SeaRay do with the Nav Light when they have this option installed?

Something like this may work as a cheaper alternative.

regarding windlass, it would be a good upgrade to your boat. I was looking at the dolphin system sold on ebay. looked well built and at a very reasonable cost. for now, I've decided to stick with the OEM 'BlowFrans' unit however.

Just and FYI, the OEM anchor roller has a list price of $300, not including shipping and install. Looking at that other thread (Islandhopper) it would seem to be a relatively easy thing to do. But, I have never looked that far up in the anchor locker to say for sure.

As mentioned above, if you really want to put a windlass on, this anchor roller won't work.

It would be interesting to see if you can get a wrench on the nut that far forward.

The reason that Searay didn't offer a roller initially is that the coast guard didn't approve it with the nav light where it is. They said it would impair the visibility. In addition, when SR put the spot light on the anchor locker it limits what you can do. The spot light on the anchor locker is dumb too because the wash of the light reflects off of the rail right into your eyes. :wow:

I think the whole set up could and should be better. While this is a small boat, it's too much weight to not have a good roller set up and even a windless. IMHO

It has always been my biggest complaint! My very first post in the "official 240 thread".
I look around in the marina I belong to, and when I see a Rinker, Maxum, etc. of the same size as my 240, with a windlass, or even an anchor roller, I say...WTF was SR thinking?

Keep in mind that the roller was an available option. It was up to the original owner (whether customer or dealer) to order it that way.

Could it/should it have been a standard feature? Maybe. But, of course, that would have made the starting price higher. Now you might say - "Well, what's another $300 dollars when you already paying "x" amount?" True, but it all starts to add up.

That being said, I agree that it should be standard on a cruiser. But the point is, Sea Ray's still have to compete against some companies on a monetary basis.

By the way, one can use the bow rail as a make-shift roller. Obviously, don't pull your chain over the rail, but you can stand back (and upright) and let the rope come over the rail. Not that it's entirely necessary, but I recommend just trying to keep the stress as close to the first stanchion as possible. It sounds weird, but I've done this many, many times on my own boats. You won't damage anything. If you're really worried about it, cut a 1' length of clear tubing (or similar) and slit it lengthwise. "Snap" it over the bow rail. But, really, I've never done that and have never scratched or bent a rail. All you're really lifting is the weight of a 5lb to 15lb anchor.

Sorry to disagree but in July of 2006 the roller was definitely not an option. I asked and even had a conversation with the factory and they said no way no how for that model. That's when I got the coast guard explanation.

You're right. Actually, now that I think back, I don't think it was an option in '05, either - which was when the current model 240DA was first introduced. It wasn't until '07 that they started offering it again. Sorry, I was generalizing a bit.

Yes, I was bummed when they said they didn't have anything and then they put the search light on the anchor lid.

Just an FYI: That secondary thread with the pics... looks exactly like the new 240DA's roller I have sitting in the showroom.

Yea, that's the only anchor roller "approved" by Sea Ray due to the nav light issue. I bought it from Sea Ray. You cannot store an anchor on it. The part number is in one of the many threads about anchoring. Possibly in the Official 240 thread.
