Well, sort of......but what they did it in also added about 500# plus about another 200# for their version of bigger power so it's a a wash.
I think I've still got them beat, but only because they have more sense than me.
The old 270 SD has almost identical dimensions to the 240SD; is a bit heavier and can be had with teh 496MAG and is faster than the 240SD when equipped so ... so to me the 270SD is kinda the hi-po 240 SD
I'm not sure I'd consider 1000+ pounds dry "a bit heavier" though. Just talking top speed, on a good day it's about about the same as a 240 with a 6.2 comparable loaded at best. I'm not sure I'd call any Sundeck, high performance though. They're incredible in big water and overall ride and handling and personally I think the 240's layout is a lot more efficient (probably the best of any boat within 3' of this size), but big old heavy tubs.
I think the 260 is pretty much the same boat as the 240. The dimensions are the same, but they count the swim platform. The reason being is because the swim platform on the 260 is an actual extension of the boat, unlike the 240, the swim platform is the same width and is level with the boat, no step down, a little bigger. That's why I alway hang out in this thread.
As for the 240 has the best layout, that's a personal preference. What most people dont know is that The 260 has the same layout, but as I said before, the swim platform is bigger, probably where some of the increase in weight comes from. Also better designed anchor hatch. Something is different with the bow area, the 260's have 2 poles for the cover, maybe it's slightly wider and I know it's taller. The bar area is better laided out, again, just my opinion. All the cushions are on hinges, so don't have to worry trailing with or with out the covers so my cushions don't fly out. Taller head, taller bow area, which I love because it makes the area feel more sercure, especially with kids up front. Our bays here get very rough so the 500lbs are definitely welcomed...
I don't think the added weight washes out the added power, just like you said, it's the torque. I load the he'll out of this boat, definitely more than I should and powers on plane amazingly. they put this same motor in the 29's and 30's which is 3k more weight.
One thing I do like about the 240 is the self bailing floor. I think Because of the different bar and stair setup, it puts the floor drain too far back and low to the water line.
