240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

We stayed in a cove off of Three Sisters Island on Friday night. We were the only boat in that cove so it was a nice quite night. Saturday was a different story. We had other family members with us all day so by time we dropped them off and went to go back to the same spot it was around 7pm.The cove was full.So we ended up in a cove off Four mile creek. We would rather have went towards Gainesville but it was getting late and we needed time to set up.Saturday night was a little loud and the water was a little bit rought. But all in all a good weekend. We probably are not going to get another chance to spend the night out until late summer or early fall.We have family coming down from up north for the summer and it just will not be possilbe with them here.

Brian - how many people slept on the boat? I'm thinking 4 people wold be the max. I plan on purchasing one towards the end of the season or the beginning of next.
I'll wait for the pictures.
Great idea!!!

Jeff-It was just the wife and I that slept on the boat.I would guess that a couple of kids could sleep in the back on the floor or up on the seat cushions. We slept on the floor one night last year but it was not very comfortable.

AMA (against mariner advice) I ordered a Carver fitted dock cover for the 240SD. Roughly $540 on eBay with shipping and, according to the description, specifically designed for the boat with the factory tower and extended swim platform.

What it wasn't specifically designed for was the bimini. With the bimini in place, cover is worthless. I called to ask "What the?" and was told that the bimini had to be laid down for the cover to work. No one makes a custom cover WITH the bimini in place. Haven't made that level of effort yet to find out if it does work.

Just wanted to share my adventures so the next person that spent the $550 would know what they were buying.

Also haven't finished my front hatch relocation yet...waiting on factory hinges...that I haven't picked up yet.

Thanks for the update. The canvas on our boat is beginning to deteriorate pretty good. Asked the dealer last time the boat was in how much for new bow & cockpit covers. $1300.00 somolians! Might have to go the full canvas route.

Been on this forum about a week. Just got our Sundeck an love it. It runs, rides, and handles great. Really happy to find others here who I can learn from!

Biggest problem for me so far is my nerves....whenever I take it out soooo afraid of doing something that might harm her.....:smt101

Does anyone use one of these battery protectors that won't let your battery drain below a certain voltage ensuring you have enough battery power to start the engine? I am concerned that while anchored we have elec load that may drain the battery. If so, are you pleased with it? If not, why not? I guess another alternative is to have one of those jump boxes avail.

Also, I have a Tennessee Trailer and am considering side board bunks to help line the little lady up when recovering. I usually back the truck and trailer in and she glides up onto the trailer. and is a bit nervous when she does. I think the side bunks would add confidence and help her align a bit better. Anyone use the side bunks, are you happy with them? And do's or don't's there?

Thanks for all the advice.

Hi All....sad dilemma. I was towing my '08 240SD and a seat cushion (port side aft) flew out while on the highway. Needless to say it is destroyed. :( Does anyone have any ideas on how/where to replace? Appreciate any help...

Do you have just one battery? If so I would add a second battery and switch instead of the battery saver. As to the trailer guides it really depends on the area that you normally launch from. Since the 240 is so heavy you have to have the trailer totally submerged when retrieving the boat the guides would be handy to hold the stern of the boat in place.

I assume you did not have your covers on???? Just order a new one from your dealer.

sorry to here about your lost cushion. I just replaced that same cushion and the larger port side cushion ahead of it also. I tried to have a local shop sew me up two new ones, problem was we could not find the vinyl to match. In the end ordered cushions from a dealer and waited 7 weeks for delivery. Final price from dealer was approx $ 1100.00 with all shipping, customs costs etc.
Not cheap but worth it.

I do just have one battery. Maybe a second one is in the cards.

Maybe that's have one problem with the trailer - I probably did not have it far enough in the water.

Hey Bama Boater, I installed the Blue Sea combo pack this past spring on my SD220. It had the battery switch and the combiner relay for $100 at West Marine. With the fuses, fuse holders, and everything to make good quality cables, that set me back another $250 or so. I've got a Interstate marine starter battery for my starter circuit and a Sam's Club special Marine Deep Cycle for my "house" circuits. I absolutely love the setup and no longer worry about getting stuck somewhere with a dead battery.

Yes, looks like my options are:
1. Order new cushion from MarineMax
2. Order the vinyl skin from MarineMax and salvage the cushion and frame which managed to survive.

Anyone ever order the skin before?

-Bob

Well folks...i just ordered a new cushion from dealer $450.00. The skin only option would have been $380.00. Lesson learned. Trailer with covers on!
-Bob

Ouch! Did you have the old cushion? A canvas/upholstery shop should have been able to match it for much less.
