240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

I ended up passing on the boat with the stroker motor and buying one with a stock 5.0 motor. It sounded like it would have been nice to have the bigger motor, but I didn't want to spend twice the amount of money on fuel every time we took it out.
The "stroker" that you're talking about... I'm not sure if you know this, or not, but Merc produced a 383/6.2L motor that was a regular, off the shelf engine. Could this be what the owner of that 240SD had installed? It uses regular gas and the difference in fuel economy vs the 5.0L MPI is only one or two GPH at cruising speeds. However, that difference often comes even closer together since the 5.0L has to work harder to do the same job.

That, which has NEVER been said in the history of boating... "I should have gotten the smaller engine" :)

He called it a Bobtail motor, or something like that.

I guess I should have been more specific, the boat with the stroker motor had no record of the manifolds, risers, elbows ever being serviced since the motor was installed in 2013. This is a boat that has been in saltwater that whole time. It's my understanding that this needs to be checked and/or replaced every 3-5 years at a cost of around $4,000-$5,000. My budget was around $20,000 and I didn't want to have that added cost on top of paying $18,000 for the boat, $3,500 for the trailer, and the idea of added fuel cost every time we take it out.
The other boat with the 5.0 was in better overall condition and had the 2-tone seats which we prefer. I was also able to buy this one for $16,000, which after the cost of trailer, will put me closer to where I wanted to be budget wise. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have the bigger motor, but just didn't want that alone to cloud my judgement when trying to decide between he two. I've read that tons of people with the 5.0 are completely happy with their boat, so hopefully I won't regret it later.

Bimini Boot 240SD 2007

Any idea where I can get a replacement OEM boot. Searched the web, called some of the sites that sell replacement boots but none know the size needed Any idea where I can ge one or the size?
Thanks
Les

James, Thanks . They are asking over $240 but yes it is OEM. I can get a generic boot for uner $100 or so, but I need the size. My boat is 2 hours from here and I wont get to it for a while to measure what i need. On one site It showed the boot should be 85 to 90 inches for a 2007 Sundeck but dont trust the site. Might you have the measurement. Thanks Les

I’ll be at the boat tomorrow afternoon or Saturday. I’ll measure it for you. I have the original boot on my 2007 240.

What color do you need? I have an extra Black boot from a 2008 Sundeck.

Anyone know how to remove these speakers? Don't see an obvious screw. Two of them are not working, so looking to replace. Also, right behind where the stern door opens is a circular cover with 4 screws, can a speaker go here as well? I didn't want to pull it because mine is cracked and might not go back together if I remove the screws.
The plate / cover is available. It took me a while to find it. Model is
BER M12 made by Bernard Engraving M12 5" dia. Search for it on ebay using Ber M12. Fits perfectly for only $17

I have a 2002 240 Sundeck. Does anyone know the exact lengths of the 3 Bimini support poles. My boat only came with 2 and I don't believe they are the right length. I have been using adjustable poles to make it sit right as purchased the whole camper package enclosure and I had to tilt the bimini forward so the front part would attah to the windshield. Thanks!

We own a 2013 240SD with a 5.0 and Bravo III. What should be a safe cruising RPM and speed given optimal/safe conditions? At 3300 RPM we achieve approximately 30 MPH. Is it okay to rev higher, go faster again with optimal conditions? If so, what are the limits? Thanks!

Here is a fuel flow chart for a small block. It gives you an idea of flow versus speed, and an estimate of mpg. Speed is whatever it is, you set power to rpm.

Those are very safe numbers for general cruising. The 5.0 is a small block, so you've got quite a bit more RPMs available to you. Above where you are in the RPM range, the only real difference is wear on the engine and fuel consumption. In the grand scheme of things, the additional wear from higher RPMs is negligible.

Thanks very much for the info!

Hello everyone, I'm new here!

I'm looking for a replacement front hatch (for over the anchor hold and front ladder) for our 2004 240 Sundeck.
Part Number: 1780759 240SD 05 Hatch R/L Fbrgls

Sea Ray doesn't have it available. Great Lakes Skipper doesn't have any based on the part number but if I get them the dimensions they will search that was as well. I emailed the gentleman on here who has access to a large factory load of parts and haven't heard back.

Anyone know of any other leads to source this part? Thanks!

It might be better to repair the original if it's broke.... You didn't say... Finding one is going to be hard... There are salvage yards possibly but that's just going to be luck. The good thing is that hatch never changed over quite a few years
