240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

View attachment 33492 I'm new to this so I hope the picture worked. A flow tube might not be the correct term now that I think about it. I call all through transom wiring a flow tube, either a water flow tube for a paddle wheel speedo, or information flow tube for a transducer.

Picture worked great...Thanks again.

If anyone is interested my 2004 240 SD is for sale. 63hrs on the 6.2l engine. Boat really is flawless.

So you have (2) 2004 Sundecks???

Oh god no, just the one for now! Just sold my home and will be buying a home with a pool so I see very little time left over to enjoy the boat. It's in perfect shape with never used carpets.

Which engine does it have? In your post, you say "6.2L engine", but your signature says "6.3L Stroker"

Seems like as soon as the boat came out of the water I forgot all the specs! It was replaced with the 383 Stroker 6.3l engine. It has 63 hours and I just bought new carpets and never even used them. Decided I like the no carpet feel better.

How do I change out a burnt out nav lightbulb? Yeah, I know, sounds like the start of a bad joke, but I just picked up my boat - 2004 Sea Ray 240 Sundeck and I need to change one of the lights.

I removed the one screw at the top but this just allows me to remove the chrome part of the light. It is still solid plastic underneath. I'm not sure how to get at the bulb inside of the light to change it. I looked underneath and you can't access it from inside the hull. I've wiggled and pushed a little on it but I don't want to break the entire light. Is there some trick for getting this darn thing open???

Thanks

I figured it out. Just a little silicon on the bottom. Had to make use a razor blade to free it and then used a screwdriver to pry it up. :)

Anyone have a good recommendation for a VHF radio on a 240 SunDeck? I'm not sure if I should get a hand-held or a fixed-mount, or what features I should be sure to get. I'm a total newbie to VHF radio use. The furthest I'm thinking of going is from Long Beach, CA to Catalina Island -- about a 25 mile hop (though I imagine Coast Gaurd is stationed at both locales and so the furthest I'd be is 12-13 miles.

You will need a fixed mount and a good antenna for that kind of range, a hand held is always good to have for a backup IMHO.

Hi Everyone,

Do you know what this is? Look at the picture, and you'll see a "short black tube" running up and down in the bottom-left corner of the photo, and it has a ring on one end. There's also a wire connecting it to the other black part to the right of it. The "short black tube" is loose and only connected by the wire to something (bilge pump???). So what is this "short black tube"? Is it broken? Can I take the boat out tomorrow with it in this condition, or do I need it fixed first?

Thank you very much,

are you sure that is not the remote oil drain hose? they used to be connected to the drain plug but the "new" way is not to let them lay around in the bilge.....

Uh, no...not sure of a whole lot in the engine compartment. "Remote oil drain hose" sounds alot more serious. For what it's worth, this is a 2005 240 SunDeck...hopefully, that clinches it as just a plug in case I take out the transducer, but if not, I want to know...

Thanks,

Yep if I remember correctly it looks like the transducer plug. The remote oil drain come out the back through the drain plug hole.

Morgueman, On my boat, that loose piece is a plug for the depth finder transducer. If for some reason you wished to remove the sender for the depth gauge, you would replace it with that plug, since the sender goes though a hole in the hull. I have never quite figured out why though, if my sender were to go bad, I would just leave it there until I got a replacement.

So where is a good place to mount the VHF antenna on the 240 SunDeck?
I think that next to the helm gives the best height, but seems like it would be only pretty minimal difference from anywhere else and the antenna would be in my line of vision will probably annoy me.

Thanks,
Eric
