240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Yesterday was the day. First time out on the water with our new to us Sundeck. Talking about high anxiety. Family came over to see the boat and wanted to go for a ride. Really hadn't planned for one yet, but why not it was finally a nice sunny day. Running around making sure everything was completed on the checklist. Still had to add the registration numbers. Well, four adults and three kids aboard. This boat is flat out fun! Love the power of the 350Mag and how the BravoIII drives. Finally trim tabs! How did I go so long without them. Boat jumped out of the hole so easily, planed out, rode the mild chop smoothly. Only downfall, cranking up the 5,000lb+ boat back on the trailer. I may be looking into a power winch one of these days. This is the perfect boat for our family. I am so happy I still have a silly grin on my face. So good to be back on the water.

Yep, great all around boat!!

Don't even try to crank it up, back the trailer farther into the water. Always wet the bunks before loading.

As Chuck said it does help to dip the bunks first. Is it ok to powerload where you boat? I (well..rather 'she') was always able to with ours and I'd just guide her up to to a half foot most times. Your strap will wear out soon cranking that beast up too many times. ( and if you haven't replaced your safety strap I'd do that as well... )

I have a roller trailer, never been a fan of power loading. Have seen the damage the practice does to the ramp. No strap, have wire rope equipped Fulton winch, two speed on the Tidewater trailer. I am still experimenting on trailer water depth to determine the best distance for the trailer. With the 215EC, would just back down until the forward fender was just about to go under, boat came off easy and cranked back up just as easy. The 240 is about 1,000lbs heavier than the 215 and longer so I may go back a bit farther. In the process of remodeling our home so boat time is tight, can't wait until that house is finished.

My sundeck is the 03 with the 5.0mpi and the bravo III. What props are you guys with the same setup running?

Joey

Just wanted to throw this out to you guys, in regards to loading the boat. You can add things called "bunk glides" or "bunk slicks", etc. I use them on my 260DA and they work extremely well. Here's one example of them: http://www.tiedown.com/abunks.html. There are different forms/versions of these. Some go on top of the carpet, others the carpet gets removed. Some attach only to the top, others wrap around the sides, too. Be careful launching as there's a good chance the boat will slide off by itself (like with rollers).

By the way... I think the 240SD is the best bowrider-type boat ever built (from any manufacturer)!

I am having my boat transported to Savvannah on a trailer.

Do you trailer with the snap on covers on?

Any problems with snaps becoming undone?

My preferance is to have the cover on.

I prefer to tow with them on - I've never had a problem with any 240SD. However, going that distance and with it sounding like someone else (not you) is doing the job, I'd rather have it shrink wrapped. It's relatively cheap and you can even have it wrapped below the hull sides for better protection.

I posted this in another thread regarding the Bunk Slicks and roller trailers. Be careful with the bunk slicks, they work real well. I tried them with our old boat, a 22' Wellcraft Cuddy. The ramps near the house are a little steep. So the stern would lift, binding the winch. I got in the habit of loosening the strap one turn before backing down. 1st time I used the slicks, started down, the boat started to move, broke the strap. The boat almost made it the 100' to the water. Stopped with the transom at the waters edge. Not a pretty sight.

I don't use the slicks anymore, I just back in far enough so that it floats. Idle speed drive on, idle speed drive off.

I never had any trouble with mine coming unsnapped but only drove at most a couple of hours. ( albeit at hiway speeds and sometimes 25 mph oklahoma winds ) If you don't want to shrink wrap you can get some of the tape they use and go along the edge over the snaps to help hold in place.

Yup - always, always, always leave the strap attached and the safety chain on until you at least get the boat part way in the water.

Good point to bring up, Rand.

vacuflush option 240sd
i am looking for any pictures of a vacuflush head and holding tank on a 240 sd. we currently have a porta potti and i cannot find a picture or a diagrahm anywhere on the optional vacuflush head or holding tank. any help would be greatly appreciated

I think the holding tank/pump went under the port side bench seat. Where the big storage area is.
Chuck

Actually the holding tank goes in the ski locker right next to the head. Can't find a pic but remember seeing one

thanks for the info, we have twin buckets so under the bench seat is not going to work. now the ski locker that would be doable i guess

We have the vacuum flush toilet in our recently purchased 240. The holding tank is indeed installed aft in the forward ski locker. Truthfully I have been so busy on our house remodel I haven't figured out how to use it. It has a key switch mounted on the front side of the bathroom cabinet that I think controls some part of the operation.. The tank has a pump mounted on the top and a odor filter. I have to break out the books and learn up on it's operation. If I get a chance I will take some pictures of the install.

Good luck with your new 240. it is a great boat and we have used ours more than any other boat we have owned. if we can get a couple of pictures whenever you can that would be outstanding. the porta-potti is the only drawback to ours.

I do indeed love this boat. Coming from a 215EC with the 220hp 5.0/Alpha drive to the 350Mag 300hp/BravoIII, Lordy what a difference. Even with 6 adults/4 kids, the boat is still blazing fast for me. It leaps out of the hole, never runs bow high, needs little trim. Did I say I love it? About those Porta-potties. That is what I had on the 215 and a cardinal rule for the family. The porta-pottie was for peeing only, no pooping. Well one day we were rafted up with friends and their little boy needed to go. Since they were without accomodations I told them he could use ours. Ah, I "assumed" he needed to pee. Well two weeks later in the hot month of August I go to dump, clean and refill the potti. Gawd, I almost vomited from the funk! Even with chemicals, whatever that tyke pooped into the tank qualified as Hazmat, aka Skull and Crossbones. Lesson learned

When I was shopping for a boat, a head was a must for the emergencies, regardless if it was 1 or 2. After having it, sometimes I wish I didn't have one on the boat. People think it's a normal restroom and when you tell them different the look at you funny. Think the new rule is if you use it, you empty it and clean. Lol
