I guessing it would do mid fifties, perhaps a bit better with the 300, and it would be whisper quiet. Pricing starts $70K with the 200. The 300 costs another $8,500.

That's pretty fast, Chuck! I still think the sterndrive version is the better looking of the two boats. I also like the larger, one-piece swim platform of the I/O. However, 58 MPH and the Verado's silent running are nice, too.

I saw the new 220SD and 240SD (with outdrives) at our dealership a few days ago. Sea Ray has outdone themselves again..............these are beautiful boats and are nicely laid out. The engine room in the 240SD is pretty amazing too. You can actually stand in it to work on the motor (try that with the old 240SD). It would be interesting to see the OB version side by side. From the pictures of the outboards though, I would still prefer to get the regular OD version.

I tend to keep my boats, cars and trucks for years. I have owned my 230 since new. I like a couple of the O/B advantages. For example, bellows, gimbal bearing and exhaust manifold/riser servicing would no longer be required. For the time being, outboards are not required to have catalytic converters. Also, no need to worry about the mandatory antifreeze treatments over the winter as the O/B is self draining.

Another question I have had is how long will GM continue to produce the 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7 blocks???? If GM stopped producing these engines, would Mercury Marine "make" these engines as they do with the 8.2L or would it make better sense to convert the Verados for sterndrive applications??????

In the end, I think SR made a pretty smart decision in offering two versions of the 220 & 240 Sundecks. We may find outboard versions of larger SRs in the near future. We'll see what the market has to say.

If you look at the offerings from Grady, Robalo, Edgewater etc they are trying to go from the fishing off shore world to the family friendly cruising boats. The OB powered Sundeck looks to compete with them for the Saltwater family boats.
