240 Sundancer Questions

Guys I currently have a 2007 200 Sundeck and was about to trade it in on a 2007 240 Sundeck and was at the dealership and saw a new 240 Sandancer and fell in love with it. My wife really liked the Sundancer because the kids can get out of the weather in the cabin. We don't plan on doing overnight trips but like the idea of the real vaccuflush head and room for all our water toys. The one I looked at had shorepower and a/c with a 350 MAG 300 horsepower bravo 3 outdrive. It is loaded and has subwoofer and power amp. I think the sticker is around 75k. The dealer has a 2006 model leftover that I think he wants to move. What do you think would be a good price and what should I look for on this boat? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really don't want a boat bigger than this right now because I want to keep it on a trailer under cover at the local marina. I would rather not keep it in the water full time. Please tell me the good and bad about this boat. Also what performance figures can I get with this engine combination.

I have a '90 220/240 Dancer and love it. It's perfect for skiing/tubing and overnighting....very easy to trailer.....I put in and take out by myself....I cruise at 22-25mph and top out at 35-40mph depending on my load....I added a powered sub and upgraded the stereo.....there is 4 of us and the wife and daughter love to hang out in the cabin and relax out of the sun....I would say the 350 mag & bravo should get up and go just fine.

Visit Sea Ray's web site and price out the boat(s) you are considering so you know what type of discount they are offering. The base price on a 2007 with a 350 MAG is over $73K so with options it will retail for a lot more than $75K. Also, there is a good video available on the 240DA. http://www.boattest.com/oem/general-info.aspx?ID=969&lp_id=32

In that video they test the 240 with the base motor and said it will run mid 40's as I recall. It ought to really fly with the 350MAG.

riversidelimo, I just bought a 2006 240 in nov. the price I gave would not be a good comparison due to the trade in figures that skew the true numbers. You never truly know unless your on their side of the table. My numbers were $70,000.00 out the door including the trailer. Popular options on the boat are the vacu flush, ac, tv, sport canvas, electronics (gps,Vhf & ant.) cd,dvd player with ipod plug, wtr htr., shore power. My boat came with the 5.0 260 hp with "B" III. My top speed is 40-42 mph. Very easy to handle on and off the trailer.
Now, the difference between 06 and 07 is the helm seat is double wide on the (07) and the steps into the cabin is via floating steps(07) verses boxed(06) meaning the aft cabin is a little more open to the main cabin. Most every thing else is pretty much the same. The huge oversight is no anchor roller, my personal opinion. Now they have a fix, however this fix is a $230.00 add on (not including labor to install) that will not store the anchor and a deck cleat needs to be added to the fore deck to keep the rope from chaffing.

Huh, ran out of room on the above reply. Anyway I find the boat to be solid and well put together. I ran this boat in the ocean in 2 to 4ft seas and it handled well, with little spray and tracked straight. The larger motor is the better choice but the 5.0 will do. Seems to be a bit top heavy and the trim tabs will need alot of attention if your like me and want to run a trimmed boat. I'll know more after my summer run to the Abacos. Oh looks like fuel use runs about 14 to 16 gph at cruise. All info comes from the mercury digital sensor gauges. Hope this helps, Mike

Just thought I should mention I installed the anchor roller on my boat and that's how I know it will not store an anchor.

Riverside, like islandhopper I also bought an '06 240 last fall. I don't have enough hours on it to give any performance numbers yet. I can give you something to compare price wise for the left over '06. I have the 350 mag bravo III, shore power, ac/heat, hot water, tv/dvd, electric/gas stove, microwave, fridge, 6 disc cd, porta pottie with pump out, full camper canvas, mooring cover, remote spotlight. Msrp of $82,000 dealer had it marked down to 54,900 (in August). I traded in an '02 20' Glastron that brought the deal down to 38,900 (thus the name "Half Off"). I think I got a great deal and wish you the best in your negotiations.

yup, MarineMax had a boat show special on the 240 DA with AC/ heat,....not sure the engine, and it was $58K as I remember, just last month.

On pricing, keep in mind if you bought in August or were looking at recent boat show pricing, there was also some Sea Ray rebate money in those prices. That's what makes those deals look so great.

When I bought my 260DA in August, Sea Ray had $9K in rebate money over and beyond the deal I got from my dealer.

The dealer threw a figure out of $59k. We really did not negotiate he just mentioned that his boss would probably let it go for that. I don't know how much lower he would go.

Dave S is correct, there was an additional discount from Sea Ray at the time I bought of around $5k. If your deal comes with a vacuflush and upgraded stereo that should be about a $2k upgrade from my deal if the rest of the options are there. So $59k doesn't sound to bad to me. Unless of course you can get them down even more! Good luck and let us know how you come out.

I got a similar deal because MarineMax wanted the deal on the books for December. My boat is equiped with 350mag, white hull, AC/heat, vhf, vaccuflush head, snap in carpet, carpet runners, nickel dash, auto fire supression system, full canvas pkg, coast guard pkg, bottom paint, full tank of fuel. MSRP in the mid 80's Bought for $55,080.
We were happy with the deal.

actually the boat I traded in was a w/a fishing boat. 2300 Polar to be exact. In an attempt to make me feel better about my trade in we showed more for the trade, By numbers we showed about 5000.00 equity in my trade which gave me more for a down payment. It's all smoke and mirrors. I'm sure I didn't do to bad. If I lost anything it would have been on the Polar. The trailer King of the Road was $5000.00. I had some extra bunks and accessories added to it also. Tax also was included for boat and trailer.

We looked at a 06 240 Sundancer in October at our local Marine Max in Clearwater, FL. If I recall, they were offering it up for about $53k out the door. I had a 02' 320 Sundancer at the time, and was down sizing. Choose the 290 SLX instead. The 240 SD is a good looking boat. Good luck

Well guys, I just put in a deposit for the 240 instead and was quoted 9 grand to have the generator installed. So, that made me feel a little better not having to spend more for the 260. I did not take a look but does the 240 have an anchor storage or would it be better to get the windlass? I am supposed to be closing on March 15 but I have several more questions about the boat. MarineMax was telling me to get the Navman GPS but I wanted to look at other options such as Raymarine or Garmin. What do you guys think would be best?

Another question, for those who have added a subwoofer and amp, where did you mount them? How big of a subwoofer did you install?

I'd be interested to see where they intend to put the generator on a 240DA. What type/size generator is it?
The 240 has an anchor locker located in the center of the fore deck which makes a windlass installation problematic. The deck would have to be modified. Neither the windlass or the generator is listed as an option on the 240 so I would question the warranty issues.

The Navman 5505 fits nicely in the space provided on the dash and it has one capability that the others brands don't have (as far as I know) and it's a feature I really like..............it interfaces to Smartcraft. You will grow tired of having only one small readout for all your Smartcraft functions on your Tach. I did and that's why I interfaced mine. Take a look at this posting and you will see what I mean. http://www.byowneryachts.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1253&highlight=navman

The only other thing I will mention is you will have to spend about $200 for a C-Map chip for the Navman and your cables and connectors to interface to Smartcraft will set you back another $200-$250 (if you buy them from the right resources).
