Hello my name is Tom, i have a sea ray 2005 sundancer 240. I just changed the oil a few weeks ago. I had the boat out today and it was great, then the psi went to about 65 and started beeping and would not stop. I was able to get the boat back to shore. Any idea what might be the problem?
Thanks
Tom

Hello tom sounds like you have to much oil and the pressure spiked also what weight oil did you use and did you use the right oil filter also Tom depending on engine temp 65 is still in spec with most engines over 70. Is high when I first start my engines they are anywhere between 57 to 60 until my operating temp is reached if they are cold it stays high as the water warms in the lake I run they come down quicker Do you have a CO detector in your cabin this fall I was running with my rear canvas off and no front window open and I got a steady alarm it was no even engine related smart craft should of given a code or error

High Oil Pressure
Cause Special Information
Oil too thick Wrong viscosity, oil full of sludge or tar
Defective oil pressure gauge and/or
sender
Verify with an automotive test gauge
Clogged or restricted oil passage
Oil pump relief valve stuck closed

Tom, these are the things to look for that will cause an alarm. Maybe more things with smartcraft, but high oil pressure is doubtful

Low oil pressure
Low drive oil
Overheat
Faulty wires or alarm

I bought the oil filture from the marina to fit the sundancer 240, the oil i used was Pennzoil motor oil 10 w 30. Could it be the carbon moxicude alarm in the cabin? Any other help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

The CO2 alarm comes from the detector itself. If the alarm is coming from under the dash, look into those things I mentioned. You are using the wrong oil in your engine as well. You can download an owners manual if you don't have 1. It's something you should read.

Hello Tom
What size engine I have been looking at some mercruiser manuals and the proper weighted oil mentioned in all of them is 25w40 so it sounds like you may have the wrong weight I always use the 25w40 in my engines as per my manual so you might want to check that

I think it was the co alarm as it sounded like a fire alarm. I also heard the alarm could go off my batteries sre low? Is there anyway to reset the co alarm?
Thanks
tom

You can check the electrical panel I know that when the CO alarm needs to be replaced it is a constant tone I unplged mine and then plugged it back in

If it's a quick 4 beeps and coming from a XINTEX CO detector, it's the CO detector.

If it's behind the dash it will be something else. Once you know you've evacuated the CO and have fresh air you can press the test/reset button. If the CO remains the alarm will go off again.
