240 lists to port when sitting in well

Anybody else have a 240 sundancer that leans to port when sitting in a well with no current ? My 97 does and even while cruising it seems to list a few inches. I don't think I have loaded uneven unless it is that sensitive wondering if it is because of the galley on that side. I looked for another post regarding this but no luck. Any feedback would be welcome.:smt100

The water heater is on the port side of our vintage and causes a slight list port. The water tank is on the centerline and does not have any effect on this condition. The Vac-Flush option would be installed in the same position as the hot water heater on the Starboard side and balance the load if you had it.

Cheers,

Jim

Good point the water tank is full and on the port side maybe that is the problem as well as two batteries. My 97 does not have a hot water tank or transom shower. It just seems that Sea Ray would not design something like this, I can even feel it when I am cruising. I only have the cheap porti potty option no vacu flush.

I got the port issue too. Seems pretty normal. I do have the vacu-flush to starboard, but full of water and holding tank empty there is a slight list to port. I've always assumed the weight of the galley, frig. microwave, larger seating area, Group 31 batteries, and hot water tank all on port causes it. Mine rides perfectly on plane with just me at the helm. Put my wife in on the port and a little trim tab is needed to balance it out. AND just for the record in case my wife sees this, she is 105-lbs. and I am 200-lbs. - that should keep out of trouble............I hope.

never really noticed it unless i'm running light on fuel and water. Since both tanks are in the middle I would assume that if both are full they tend to offset port /starboard weight distribution.

question do you have A/C on youre's. the A/C is mounted on the starboard side along with the optional generator. who knows maybe the A/C unit is just enough weight to off set this port lean that I don't have.

My fuel tank is full which is in the middle but my freshwater tank is on the port side as is 2 batteries. I do not have a/c YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there you go; good excuse to tell the admiral you need to add A/C / Heater to the boat as it will off set that Port side lean.

good thinkin....

I seem to list starboard but I am 220lbs and my wife is 100lbs, I usually try to stand dead center while cruising at moderate speeds. Otherwise I think these boats are just top heavy.

This is very strange design. My 240DA had both tanks in the center. Holding tank on the starboard side and water heater on the port side. I think this is the way it should be, providing no other units are installed. Most of the time the boat was leveled. The only time I had to adjust it with trim tabs when I had 6+ people on board. Since all seats are located more to the port side leaving only the captain on starboard side the boat could be unbalanced. BTW, from what I've seen, most 240s have a/c installed under the v-berth. So, this shouldn't effect the balance.

Looks like the only option for now is to adjust the tabs.

very few 240's have factory installed A/C. mine was ordered that way and it's installed starboard of the bulkhead in the rear berth.

alex;

I find it hard to belive that you have seen factory units installed under the V-berth as this would be rather noisy while trying to sleep. not to mention having the raw water pickup up under the V-berth. just sounds real odd to me...

tphinney,
I'm not an expert on a/c units, but form what I've seen it's 90% of the time installed under the v-berth. E.g. 280DA has the unit under the gally bench. I don't recall 290, but 300 and 320 (2002 model change and newer) units are always under the v-berth. As for the noise, it's not too bad. If you're a very light sleeper, then a little noise of the fridge will keep you awake anyway. I guess, people just get used to it.

My 300DA had the AC unit under the v-berth as do the 320 and 340, and the noise was not an issue. By the way the raw water pickup is located in the bilge, not the v-berth.

Sorry to get off-topic, but....didn't think a generator was even a possibility in a 240?

If properly thought and designed while configuring your new boat I think there's enough room. With the way my 240 was I think moving water heater to the starboard side (right behind the holding tank) will leave enough room for genny as well. Some people do it, even though it's not common on this size of boat. However, if you love the boat and it has everything else that works great for you except genny, it could be much better to spend $5K-$6K for genny than changing boats.

Just MHO,
Alex.
