240 DA - What Prop Pitch Do You Have?

We are running the the "As Shipped By SeaRay" 24 Inch prop set on our 5.0L EFI BIII [2.20 Gear Ratio]. I am getting 4500 WOT which is on the low end of the acceptable range. The boat performance is pretty much in line with that. Good top end and quite poochy out of the hole.
Just wanted to take a quick poll and see what others have done for propping on 240's and what the results you have seen are.
Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Jim

On my 03 240 I had the 5.0 MPI with the bravo 3 and I was spinning 22 pitch props with pretty good results unless the boat was heavily loaded, and got 48 mph (by GPS) @ 4900 RPM.

After I took delivery of my boat and found it a bit slower than most, I started looking into this. I've yet to be able to tell what Sea Ray was thinking as they put props on 5L 240s... Which is why in my boat description I included the prop, 20"p. The boat runs well, gets up with no troubles ever, it just hits mid to upper 30's mph and the rev limiter takes over.

I talked to my service manager, he was willing to work with me. The 22s will make me go faster, but it will work my engine quite a bit harder, he was worried about scuffing of the cylinders mainly.

As I boat on the Sound, I've become more concerned with low planning speed than wot speed, so I've left them at 20.

Mine are 20" as well. I lose a little on the top end but they allow me to stay on plane easier at a lower speed when the water gets snotty. Since we spend most of our time cruising about 25-28 mph the top end is not an issue.

My thanks to all for the commentary and information!
Wow, I am surprised with the the drop clear down to a 20P from some of you. The holeshot must be great!
If I run the numbers for our boat on Merc's "Prop Selector" it recommends a 22P. So why SR sent this boat out with a 24P is beyond me. I think I will give Merc's "Try It Before You Buy It" program a try on a 22P and see how it performs. If it's not enough, I can work my way down from there.
Again, thanks to all.

Jim

when I had 24's on i was only topping out around 4400 and with a boat full of people it took forever to get to plane. threw on 22's and increased wot rpm's to around 4800 and boat is much quicker to plane. still won't jump up on plane with a full boat, but much better than the 24's.

I ended up putting on a 20P "Cupped" prop set and it made a totally new boat of my 240. With the "Cupped" version I get the hole shot of 20 incher and the top end of a 22.
Thanks for your feedback!

I have the 20p prop..however with 6 people on my 240DA and half tank of fuel, it still takes me quite some time to get on plane. my cruise is around 3800 rpm and about 26 to 28 mph.

Would it be better for me to go to 18p? I dont care about top end speed. My boat is always loaded.
