We are looking at a 23 ft with a 7.4.Has any body had any expireance with one of these.thanks

Dan,

Welcome Aboard  It looks like the 230 on the board have the smaller engines but they may be able to give you some info on the boat. If you don't get a reply from them may want to PM them. You can find them in the Virtual Marina.

May also want to provide more detail. You may get good feedback even if it's not from someone with the exact boat.

Welcome aboard!

Its a 2000,with a bravo 1.We have a 190cc with a 5.0 and are wondering what the differance in fuel consumption would be.The tow vehichle is a 5.7 taho and thats another question.
THANKS FOR REPLYING EVERYONE.

Dan,

the 7.4 can be a thirsty pig as I found out when I filled mine last summer for the first time at the loacl marina. The fuel was 1.27$ a liter which would equate to about 5.00$ CA for a US gallon. I cut back on the speed and carried my own fuel to the cottage from then on. I never did a cost per hour. I tow mine very carefully with a 99 Toyota 4Runner LTD. The trailer is a tandem and the brakes are set up pretty tight. I tow only a few times a year and a short distance on two laners. We are very pleased with the 1998 230. I bought it used with under 100 hours last spring after running a 19 Cadorette 4.3 Alpha for 16 years with over 1500 hours. No comparison! Full glass liner with snapin carpets was such an improvement, the extra foot of beam and four added to the length make it ride so much better. The BIII is an experience all in its self. You can make figure 8's in reverse. Very responsive! I think you will be very happy with the 230 / 7.4 / BIII

Thanks for all the information, lake michigan can be bumpy, the extra length will help.

I had a Crownline 225 BR with a 7.4 Bravo I for seven years. Great boat, great power combo. Mine was carburated and I always wished it was MPI. The thing would pop onto plane and hit 57 mph on a good day. You'll like it.

On a long trip, a friend of mine in a 20 foot Four Winns with a 5.0 liter used about the same amount of gas as my 7.4. His natural cruising speed was a little slower than mine but he paced me so probably wasn't operating at his optimum cruise speed for mpg. So, conclude you'll have a faster cruise vis-a-vis a smaller V-8 and plenty of power for pulling skiers and toys etc.

Good luck!!

I have a 2000 model 230 BR with a 7.4L engine. I bought it in Dec of last year. (Traded in a 190 BR) I'm am pleased with the boat but I had to replace the "coupler" a month ago. It rides great and is very responsive. It has the Bravo III outdrive. It is not economical but what do you expect for this kind of power. I run it at abot 3200 rpm which when trimmed out gives me about 38 mph. I will do, as of yesterday, with me and a full tank of gas about 54 mph. Has lots of room. A really great boat! Do you have one of these boats?

I have a 98 7.4L MPI/Bravo1 its a great combination.
Unfortunately it will/can use alot of gas. Believe it or not Skiing and tubing it doesn't use much more than our 5.7L/alpha in our old boat, But cruising above 35/40 mph it really sucks it down.

I dont have the 7.4 engine (wish I did), but we love our 230/Bravo III. Its a great boat, lots of room and handles the chop well. I pull mine with an Avalanche with no problems.
