Greetings, I am wanting to purchase a garmin echo map 44dv. My problem is where and how to mount it. It doesn't seem like it's that easy to get up under the helm. Likewise for running the transducer/power cables. Is this even a possibility to mount it on the right above the switches?

Any pics of similar setups appreciated.

Any guesses of a rough order of magnitude to have it professionally installed????

Thanks!

Bump? Anyone have a similar set up to give me an idea how a gps/FF would look? Issues with installation?

It looks like a GPS was an option from Searay. I added a Garmin to my sundeck and used the factory mount that was custom made by Garmin for Searay. You might want to contact Searay customer service and get the info on the GPS. On my sundeck I got my depth from my smartcarft and used the garmin for nav. The factory mounts made for a very clean install.

First - Welcome to CSR!

As for your install - Guys on this board are very experienced & willing to help. Your project may be a little on the rare side so give them some time & check back often. Im sure someone will chime in soon.

Again, welcome to CSR!

HA! - There ya go. I knew someone would be here soon.

How do you feel about holes in the dash? Holes in the dash means you won't really see the wires too much. No holes means you easily see the wires.

The white, vertical section (below the windshield wing)... I forget in your boat - is that fiberglass or vinyl?

Roughly 2 to 3 hours to install, with a transducer.

Thanks all!

As for holes in the dash- I don't mind and prefer it for the cleaner no visible wires look.

The white on the dash is vinyl.

The tricky part, as I see it, will be the access to the rear of the dash. Will be a one hand, no visual job from what it looks like. And yes, I am planning on mounting the transducer as well, drilling through the upper transom below the swim platform.

If you are referring to a flat, square surface, then no, I do not have a existing mount. Could you pass along a pic of your setup?

How about the white area immediately to the right of the angled, vinyl part? Is that glass or vinyl? This is the completely vertical section. The reason I ask is that, in the future, if need be, fiberglass/gelcoat is much easier to fix.

What's the access like behind the dash? Do you see that switch panel to the right of the steering wheel? That can be removed, but you have to get to the nuts from the back side. Once removed, it should leave you with a big access hole. Between that and the access along the side, forward of the throttle lever, it will give good access for wires. Look up inside the side storage compartment and you'll see what I mean.

What John is showing you won't work for your boat. Nor is there a similar "mount" available from Sea Ray. For your boat, if the GPS was selected as an option, it is built into the dash - the dash is entirely different as there is then only a speedo and tach with the GPS in the middle.

You'll have two options to be able to keep the wires somewhat hidden. Use the included bracket that comes with the Garmin and mount it on that flat, angled, white vinyl spot on the right. Or use a RAM mount (check out their website - it's an adjustable arm-style mount system) which would enable you to mount the arm's base on the white vinyl or that vertical white section. With either options, you can use a clam shell to cover the large hole where the wires go through the dash. Just keep that hole behind the unit so they're not too visible. RAM has an option to mount to the windshield support post, too - but it tends to put the RAM and the Garmin in the way somewhat. It's a cleaner looking install on the right side of the dash.

Cool thanks, yup will most likely be going with the garmin mount on the right side on the slanted vinyl. Picking up the unit tonight and will be installing in the upcoming weeks- I'll post the results (and questions if they come up)

Thanks again.
