Hi all! I’m looking for some prop upgrade advice. I have searched old posts but couldn’t really come up with any answers for my application. We bought a ‘99 210 signature BR last summer and have had some time to get comfortable with the boat. It’s such a great boat for us and we are loving it. I’m looking to change out my prop for a couple reasons. The previous owner beat up the skeg and put some dings in the prop, it’s not bad, but I’d like to start over with a fresh balanced prop. I’d also like to have the old prop onboard as a spare.

The boat is running a TBI injected 5.7 with an alpha 1 outdrive with a 1.47 gear ratio. The current prop is a 17 pitch stainless mercury vengeance. At WOT, I’m running 47 MPH at 4500 rpm with the trim up, Bimini down, one person in the boat and a half tank of gas.

I’m generally pretty happy with the performance of the boat. The hole shot is strong and will pull me up on a slalom ski, no problem. It would be nice to be able to hit 50 MPH, but don’t want to give up my hole shot for top end.

We spend about 5-10% of our time pulling skiers, but the rest of the time we like to cruise at pretty low speeds to keep it comfortable for our 4 year old daughter.

I’m looking at moving to a stainless four blade prop. The reason for the four blade is to try lower our planing speed a little bit without giving up much hole shot or top end performance. It would be nice to cruise around 20 mph on plane rather than having to jump up to 24-25 mph to get the bow down.

Current prop pitch is 17 and I think I’ll stick with with a 17 pitch. I’m looking at a Mercury Revolution 4 or a Michigan Wheel Apollo 4.

Is my thinking about moving to a four blade prop on track? Does my current performance seem about right? Does anyone have any experience with either of these props on a similar size boat with similar motor/outdrive?

Any advice or recommendations are appreciated! Thanks in advance for any help!

Happy Boating
