2022 SPLASH pics

Anything new you saw at PIB?
Nothing really, but we pretty much stuck to the docks, Blue Marlin, Boathouse & Roundy.
I'm sure you know they're redoing the seawall by the monument...

Not a whole lot is/was open yet or closes early. That's okay, there's plenty of time for the crazy. Sometimes it's nice to have PIB low key!

The Whiskey Light was a great time this year. It was busy on South Bass, the Roundhouse was packed, like middle of summer 4 years ago packed. Mostly ferry traffic though as there were only about 30-40 boats in the harbor.

I'll be there at some point this weekend as well to see some friends that are boating from Michigan.

Never unsplashed. I've been staying over on the weekends since late March.

Our marina puts in bubbler hoses and a few of us put personal ice eaters in our slips. The worst we had was a skim of ice in the fairway in February, nothing in the slips.

Did you happen to see if new fire truck was in?

My splash has been postponed indefinately. Went to look at my wash, wax and bottom wash job today. Numerous spots of white all over my bottom where the powerwashing stripped bottom paint off. So now I need to schedule bottom paint.

Seems to me that when the first spot of white shows, you would stop and not keep going. Maybe back off the sprayer psi

Being 32 years old it sounds as if a total strip and repaint is in order at minimum. If power washing took the paint off to bare gel coat, then it wasn't adhered well anyhow. Got any pics of the bottom paint? How thick and rough is it.

I made my appointment for Mother's Day...my wife likes to splash that day.

Finished up freeing up and greasing all sea cocks and changed all of those hoses this morning.

Then washed the entire monster today in preparation for this weekend's polish and wax job. I'm beat.

PSA-

Mary Kate black streak remover is great stuff.

That happened to me the first and last time I had someone else wash my bottom. Not only did they create lots of work for me, but they only washed from the waterline to the first chine...the easy half.

I've done it myself since with a 1600 psi electric machine. It works great but is a back breaking job that takes most of a day.

I was informed today that owners won't be allowed to do this anymore since "it's a service that they provide"...WTF?

I asked if I was allowed to wash the hull, which I was doing. Can I change my oil or plugs?

All services that they provide.

This led to a colorful exchange about my last experience and expectations going forward.

I don't mind paying them. I hste doing it myself but I'm not paying $200 for half a job done by hacks.

This morning, climbing on to fire up and move to slip..View attachment 125449View attachment 125450
I get to slip open hatches, hear water running in. Got the marina mechanic to looksee. The guys I hired to winterize never tightened a clamp when they pulled hose to drain. He fixed it. Not even enough came in to run the bilge pumps. Let this be a lesson. Check EVERYTHING at launch.
I won’t be using that company again.
Where is your beer?
