Engines
MerCruiser 5.0L MPI ECT w/Bravo III Drive
I'm up hear in Lake Tahoe and my 2013 Searay Sundeck with 5.0 MPI ECT Bravo III Sterndrive won't accelerate past 2500 rpm and about 10mph.

I normally use it in southern California. Used it Father's Day weekend 3 weeks ago in Lake Mohave and it worked beautifully.

Any idea what the problem could be? No warnings on the smart craft gauge.

I have read that prop pitch can affect performance, but I was expecting to lose about 10mph in performance, not more than 30mph of top speed.

When I rev the engine without the prop engaged, it revs normally to 5000rpm. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Altitude and drive ratio are the first things that come to mind.

Sounds like a combination of high altitude and weak ignition. Get a tune up and a lower pitch prop for Tahoe.

6224 feet. Less O2 to burn and a rich mixture if the MPI doesn't have altitude compensation. I would talk to a local boater if at all possible. Experimenting with a 14" prop would be expensive. Could you please take a crap on Jane Fonda's deck while you are down there as I loved my 2-strokes. Wonder what she agreed to do in Klute when she said, "That will cost extra."

Still, the tramp had gumption. Her heart was in the right place when she fought the War although she may have crossed a line. Hunting studs throughout the galaxy in her sex RV as Barbarella was special. Why plane, when you can enjoy the waterfront and its denizens?

So an update to this, since the boat was new to me, I didn't actually know what prop size I had on the Bravo III. It turned out the previous owner was running a 13.75 x26, 3 blade RH and 15.25 x 26, 4-blade LH. In Searay's propeller chart, they state my 220 with the 5.0 MPI should have a 14.25 x 22.50 3 blaDe RH, and 15.75 x 22.50 4 blade LH.

I had tried to order one while in Tahoe, but I was not able to locate one. My dealership in Irvine is now looking for one. The props worked great at low altitude, and I am now curious how the appropriately sized props will work locally in Southern California.

The props on there are for a 26 foot SLX with the 8.2. LOL, big difference.

SeaRay may list "high altitude" props as an option on your boat when it was new. They do for the SPX 190 I noted. You could duplicate that option with aftermarket props.

Final update to this. Finally got the props that were back ordered in and installed. Tried it out a couple of weekends ago at Silverwood Lake in SoCal which is high altitude, though not as high as Tahoe. Boat worked beautifully.
