I've seen a few pictures surfacing on the internet, some 'glamour' teaser pics (with effects) from Sea Ray, and this (plain) one. Any thoughts, or other pictures to share? I'm curious as to how widely available this boat will be - will dealerships have the interest or resources to sell and service a jet boat? My Northern California dealership seems to do a very small Sea Ray volume, mostly Chapparral and Bayliner. I haven't asked, but can't see them doing it.

I understand the one at Expo was the PD&E boat or the first one. Looked like a typical Sea Ray......well thought out and clean neat interior. Compared to the Yamaha and Sea-Doo boats we see around here, the Sea Ray jetboat appears to be at the top of the heap quality and appointment-wise. The Weber engine package looked impressive, although the boat was not in the water and we didn't get a chance to run it.

Hey Phlorida,

I'm always trolling the internet looking for Sea Ray info, and have seen that page as well as the pictures they've been sending out on Instagram. :) As far as Frank's comments, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a prototype - in one of the pictures they tweeted, the vinyl work on the transom looked a bit wonky as far as stitchwork and fit and not what I'd expect to see on showroom floor. Unless it was just a weird angle on the photo? Anyway, the release of this boat makes me wonder when and if they're going to redesign the 205 as it's been around for a while - or if they see the Jet as ultimately being it's replacement? Looks like they've phased out the 185 (at least it the US market), and the 190 is now the entry level boat and is just a year into its product cycle. Isn't it (the 205) their best selling sport boat?

205 is going nowhere. SR will make two Jet boats, to "test the waters" of that market segment. It may be "Sea Ray well thought out, clean and neat" but will be priced well above the Yamaha jets. It remains to be seen if buyer's will be interested in a $40K plus jet or not. As far as sales distribution, if your area has a large prescense of jet boats on the water, you can bet SR will have their boats at the local dealer.

Hey KayKook, I would have guessed that the 205 was going to stick around...but don't understand why it hasn't had a redesign. I think it's a nice boat, but no longer fits in with their current design 'language'?

Like you said, it's been historically their best seller. You know, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" :smt001

I think the 205 is the best selling 21 footer, not necessarily their best seller. I guess I have not looked that hard at it, but it seems like the 205 has evolved and remains in-line with the sport boat line. My first year 205 has more in common with the 200's that came before than it does with the current model. The structure of the gunwale, sunpad area and more have all been changed aft of about the point that the "tower" attaches. It must remain popular. There are a couple of distinct trim and option packages that earlier versions did not have.

Yeah, while I'm certainly *curious* about the new 21Jet, I'm not particularly a fan of jet boats for that exact reason. Actually, I've just ordered a Merc High Five prop ... because the Vengeance I've got on it now has trouble pulling up 'big boned' single-skiers quickly if I've got a few people in the boat...which I always do. :)

Would think that'd be an even bigger problem in a jet boat?

I was just looking at the 2013 205 specs and it was redesigned for 2013. The deadrise was lowered from 20 to 19 and the maximum persons capacity was increased from 8 to 10 persons and the max weight capacity from 1200 to 1600 lbs.

We have a jet boat with a 350 V8 and 330HP. The same boat with a 250 outboard will do almost 50MPH I can do just under 40. I does not pull things well. I got it for rivers and shallow water. In my opinion if you want a lake boat get one with props. If you want a river boat get a jet boat. I would not run a fiberglass jet boat on a river because I do not think the hull could take a gravel bar at 40 MPH. If you want fuel economy a jet will be bad compared to a prop. At 22 knots I burn 8 GPH on flat open water. At 40 it is 15 GPH.

So, has anybody actually seen a 21 Jet in inventory at a dealership yet? Summer's pretty much here, and I still don't see pricing set up on Sea Ray's website ('Build Your Sea Ray' tool). Also, I recall hearing (from my dealer, if I recall correctly) that Bayliner was also going to get a jet boat?
