Hello members,

In need of some help here. Been a boater going on 2 year now. I try to fix whatever I can myself to save money especially in the boating world. I started noticing that my Depth Finder on my 09 230 Select is malfunctioning while in the water. Its not working more times then it is. Ive hit several sand barges and its nerve wrecking so I know this is a fix that I need to attend to now. From what research I have done I can tell the transducer is located at the "V" of the hull just pass the engine. Ive tried tapping it as well as check to see if there is any loose connection or damaged wire while someone is monitoring the gauge to see if it changes but nothing. Most of the time while on the water the gauge starts off working when I first launch the boat then shows nothing on dash and very seldom does it actually show the depth. The gauge is on that has multi function like water psi, trim, gas, etc. Everything on the gauge seems to be working fine if that helps.

Can anyone point me towards the right direction on what i should look for or do at this point? Is it just replacing out the transducer or is there more to it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :smt038

Make and model of the bottom machine and transducer would help. Also, is the transducer through hull mounted or is it a shoot-through-the hull, inside the hull?

The depth sounder on my 240 SunDeck went bad. (It is the black thru hull plug in the hull just in front of the motor, also visible under the boat, since it is a thru hull.) Same symptoms that you are describing Worked when it had ben out of the water for several days, but after launching it would quit after a few hours. I can't see a crack when I removed it, but there must be one somewhere.

I found mine on Amazon for $260, Mercury Mercruiser Quicksilver OEM Part # 79-8M0075631 SENSR DP/TMP
The wiring runs around the engine bay and plugs into the wiring harness on the top front of the engine. Mine even still had a sticker on the plug so I could find it. It takes a bit of time to run the wires around the motor, but replacement is a pretty simple job.

I have one of these for sale. I'll ship for $150 or offer. Works perfectly. PM me for details.

It is this: Mercury Mercruiser Quicksilver OEM Part # 79-8M0075631 SENSR DP/TMP, also known as DT800. With instructions.
