hi all

I’m hearing a squeaking from my port motor that gets louder with added throttle. Sounds like a bearing noise. The tensioner was replaced last summer. The belt seems ok. If I spray some wd40 directly on the pulley shaft screws for the water pump ( being careful not to spray the belt) the squeaking stops for a brief moment, then starts again. The motor is running at normal temp (160 or so) however I’ve noticed the water pressure on smartcraft has increased from approx 2.3 to 3.5-4.0 at idle. The stbd motor runs about 2.3. Third season with boat and have not yet changed impellers. That said I’m thinking this is a bearing failing on the pump itself. If so, I’m guessing the entire pump ( housing and guts) has to be replaced? Appreciate any thoughts on this.
Thank you

See if you can get an automotive stethoscope, or another set of ears to help you narrow down the source of the squeak, would suck to replace the pump if that wasn't the source. Your water pressure numbers don't seem out of line, I just had my impellers replaced on inboard 8.2s that are freshwater and they're 3.5-4 at idle now.

Take the belt of and turn each pulley by hand, and also check for play in the shaft, Is this the sea pump or water pump you are talking about, sea pump won't turn easily due to rubber impeller, when my sea pump went it had a lot of play in the bearing

^^^ THIS ^^^

Recently I ignored a tiny wobble in the water pump pulley on my LS-3 (circulation pump on a Merc MPI) and a week later I blew the water pump. Not the best day.

At this point you're due for impellers and you might consider the hardin S/S pumps if they are in your budget.

While you have the pump off and check all the pulleys, who knows you might need an idler or something else.

As an update, I noticed a slight wobble in the pump pulley. Removed the pump and replaced and the squeak is gone. Also my at idle water pressure reduced from 3.5-4.0 to 2.1.

Thanks to all
