This time when I headed to the Marina I had my camera and I took a bunch of pictures of the new 270DA. I also took more time to get the "feel" of the boat and really look it over and I haven't changed my mind. This is a very nice design (despite a few things I didn't like) and it is a definite improvement over our 2005-2008 260DA's. My dealer also had a chance to lake test the boat. It's powered by the MAG 350. I was told it comes up on plane quickly with very little bow rise, much faster than our 260DAs and that it will top out over 40 mph as well.

Here is a shot of the front of the boat. Notice that is has a nice bow rail compared to the one we saw in earlier pictures.

Here is the transom with the rear seat folded down. There is a small dedicated compartment for shore power hook-up on the transom too.

The grill and sink also has a nice storage compartment underneath.

The cabin entry door is off to the side and there are dedicated steps to the fore-deck now.

The new instrument panel; is a definite improvement as well.

The captains bench swivels to the rear as well to make the "converation pit". I spent some time trying out the seat to see how it would work since there are no flip up bolsters. The seat is very comfortable and works fine without the bolster. It feels right when you are sitting and driving and you can stand up just fine too without the seat hitting the back of your legs. It's going to be a tight squeeze for two to sit side by side but it's do-able. I give it a thumbs up because of its comfort and versatility.

Here's a couple of pictures of the cabin.

And the mid cabin now is more open and has some nice storage too.

And finally............a folding screen door for the cabin!

And how about this for serviceability..................the shower sump is right under one of the cabin steps and real simple to get to.:smt038

Quite a nice boat if you ask me.

I like the transom seat, cockpit grill, dash layout and the screen door. Nice looking boat.

thanks for the pics Dave, definitely a nice boat for sure! Now, who is going to be the first to take the plunge???

Dave, what are the few dislikes?

I like the screen door for the cabin. Is there a solid panel?

Why does LWM have this gorgeous 270 in the canbote section????????

The bumpers are almost big enough for my Sea Doo.

Dave, Thanks for the pictures!! Nice boat!! Why are you tempting us (or at least my wife!!) and we only just got our 260!!! Nice grill!! Like the shore power hook up! How much is this one going to set us back? Is the grill standard? Thanks!

To answer a few of the questions, I really don't know much about pricing except you can be sure it will be more expensive than a 260DA. The other question which is still unanswered is whether the 260DA will continue to be produced or not. I tend to think it won't be but we will just have to wait and see. And right now a 260DA will probably seem like a bargain because of incentive money compared to a 270DA.

The grill I am sure is optional as are many other things on the boat. Until Sea Ray gets this boat up on their web site, we probably won't know what's standard and what's optional. For instance, I saw no TV in the main cabin but there was a small drop down in the mid-cabin. I am sure they have to offer one for the main cabin though. Here's the one in the mid-cabin.

As far as the entry door and screen goes, it a multi piece set up. The door itself is a bi-fold with a "lid" that goes over the top. And the screen door is a bi-fold too. Here's a couple of pictures of the door.

What are the dislikes? While the fold down transom seat is very nice. it does mean that the Lazarette is quite small. Plus whatever you put in there will move around when you lower the seat. However, there is a lot more underseat storage in the cockpit than there is in my 260DA so that will somewhat make up for it. The other thing that I don't understand is the location of the battery switch and DC switches. It is under a seat storage area and you have to remove a cushion to get to it. This in and of itself isn't bad but since this is also a storage area, it almost makes no sense because under-seat storage areas tend to get pretty crowded with "stuff". They should have located it under the sink. The cabin door is another thing that has me wondering a bit too. It has a lot of snaps and catches to hold things open and closed. I am wondering how this will hold up over time. While I would like a different design, I am not too sure what they could have done differently. I also still prefer the cockpit design of the 260DA over the 270 because of its capacity. My guess is this one will seat 6-7 comfortably whereas the 260DA can seat 7-8 in reasonable comfort. And I really think that two in the Captain's Bench will not be comfortable either for any long runs. But that's about it. In almost every other aspect the boat is an improvement over the 260DA. The cabin and mid cabin are more spacious. There is way more storage in the cabin as well. The new head looks better and may work better too since it seems a bit taller. As I said before, if price were not an issues, I would choose this boat over my cureent 260DA. Sea Ray should have no problem selling this particular model.

And finally for Charlie...............I apologize for the Canbote being in that picture. :smt043

Thanks for the extra pictures and explanations Dave! After seeing all this.....I (Don's wife Dana) think I like the 260 better! Good thing since we only just got it!! You made lots of very good points! Thanks again!! Dana

Nice pictures ... thanks ...

The only feature that seems to have a downside is the bigger stairwell in the cockpit.

It seems like an accident waiting to happen, and not too much room to get around the helm seat and avoid the stairwell when you're going up onto the deck.

When are they going to design a deck insert that opens/closes with the cabin door?

Only two portholes! And one is in the head? It must be awfully dark in the cabin with the hatch covered. Don't like that at all... :smt009

Actually there is a lot more light in the cabin because of this:

That huge fixed window panel makes things nice and bright and airy in the cabin.............much more so than our 260DA's. There is a shade mounted in the headliner if you want to close it all the way or partially close it. The disadvantage is that the window takes up a lot of space on the foredeck limiting where you can lay up there if your into sunbathing.

I was on this boat at the Annapolis Boat Show in October. Its a fine boat well appointed. Along with a great cockpit that has a great wrap around lounge seat and fold down transom seat. The layout and the interior seems to more spacious than its 260 model it replaced. Aft cabin has some very features like skylight effect that port light gives you. V berth seemed to very generous either as lounge seat during the day or set up a sleeping area at night. It was very impressive improvement. The 270 however is very pricey. You could buy a couple nice used 260's for the price of one new 270!

I checked searay.com and the spec's are 8' 10" beam, dry wt. 8211....with an engine option of a 496 MAG coupled to a Bravo III or a Sea Core drive....that boat would be a blast....if price wasn't an issue. I like the propulsion options, 350 Mag, 6.2, or 496 Mag. Looks like Clarion got the boot...Sony was pictured on the S/R website.

It looks like there isn't much to not like. Thanks for the pictures Dave!

I was on that boat today at the Seattle Boat show. I really is a nice boat. It's a good replacement to the newer 260DAs and their tippier deadrise. The 270 has the same deadrise as the older model 260DAs. I think it will do better and is layed out nicely.
The interior does seem more roomy. I still like the layout of are cockpit better, but there's trade offs to everything. The aft Sunbed layout is pretty slick though. My wife likes that.
