RE: 2009 SeaRay 270 5.7 mag brovo 3. I have used the boat three times since winter. It is in salt water all year long and I start in once or twice a month. I filled up with gas two weeks ago and it ran perfect. I took it out today and can get it to plane. I can only get it to reach 3600 rpm at WOT. I replaced the fuel filter. Still had the same issue. I took the flame arrestor filter off and still had the same issue. Any ideas?

Thanks

Is the hull clean. After sitting for that period of time I would say it is time to haul the boat and clean / repaint the bottom.

It seems like the 270 (which 270 by the way??) would be underpowered with the 350 to start with, so ANY issue, however small, that impacts power to the prop could keep you from making the jump to warp. (Not that even the 496 Mag gives "warp", LOL!)

But seriously, start looking at any bottom issues, as to cleanliness, etc, prop issues, any vibrations, etc, is the engine properly tuned, is it getting fuel properly, all the so called "little things". See one of my recent posts about the potential effects of a few small issues adding up to a big issue. It could be something like that....a few things that none of which keep the boat from running, but cumulatively keep it from delivering all the power the engine is capable of, and again I would think with the 350, no matter which 270 you have, you need every single horse under that hood wide awake and running on all four legs, as well as a clean hull and well-conditioned out-drive and prop.

Hauled my boat and cleaned the bottom past few days. .......new bottom paint. Picked up 11 mph and 600 RPM.

checked my fuel pressure at the dock. 37psi @key on...35psi@ idle...33psi@ 2800rpm...disconnected vacume hose on fuel regulator and it jumps to 40psi which tells me that is working. I called mercruiser and they said the spec for my boat is 30psi. Guess I did not think it would be growth on the bottom because it ran perfect just after filling up with gas. Would that much growth happen in two weeks?

We just had our hull cleaned by a diver and they took photos of the bottom before and after. I was shocked at the amount of barnacle growth that's not noticeable 2 months ago. I think our water in Puget Sound is a bit warmer this year (noticed on my electronics that show sea water temperature) and there may be more soft growth this year.

Mercruiser gave me bad info. My fuel pressure should be 43psi at 1800 rpm and mine is only
33psi. I am getting closer I think. Now I have to run a hose into a can of gas to see if there is a restriction from the tank. If I get the same result I am thinking it is a gas pump and I assume it would be the high pressure one.

did 2009 still use cool fuel 3.......if yes, you may have the dreaded "paint flake" problem...been there, done that

I believe it is the new version of cool fuel 3. Have not opened it up yet to see if it is a paint issue.
