I just purchased a brand new 2009 Sea Ray 205 Sport. I took it out this afternoon and could not seem to get the bimini top up correctly. It seems as if the two black straps that are to clip to the front hooks are not long enough! I didn't see an obvious way to lengthen them (it appeared they were already as long as they could go) and came up about 1-2 feet short (both of them). I looked at the canvas itself and it sure seems like I have the right Bimini canvas top (the label appears to indicate it is the 2009 SR 205 Sport top. So is there something I am missing? Is there a secret way to lengthen the straps that was beyond my wife and me? Needless to say we were quite frustrated and are hoping to be out on the lake all day tomorrow. That won't be such a great idea without some coverage from the sun! I can't tell if it is the straps or if I somehow am placing the rods in the wrong direction. Very frustrating!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a black, plastic "slide" adjuster in the strap. Not something you'd really miss - it's probably what you already saw. Not sure why you're having a problem. You do have to pull the strap pretty good to make sure the bimini top is nice and taut (although it makes it a little easier to pull down on the front of the bimini while attaching the strap to the eye).

What poles are you talking about? Wasn't the bimini already standing up when you picked up the boat?

On the rear straps you have to make sure they are down the pole all the way to the Y joint on the back legs. You should be able to slide the rears straps up and down on the pole.

I tend to hook the front straps first, then extend the front legs into the locking position. Once that's hooked up I finish up the rear straps.

I guess I should have asked if you have a tower too? The above instructions are for a 205 w/ factory tower.

Ooops. I was assuming he had a regular bimini. Didn't even cross my mind to ask about a tower!:smt101
