2008 sundeck 290 , picking up on Saturday

I’m picking up a sundeck 290 with the 496 mag on Saturday. Just wondering if anyone else has the boat , any advice on it or the engine . Has 200 hrs . Thankyou

I haven't seen a 290 thread exactly, but most of the 240/260/270 comments should be appropriate. same systems, yours is just bigger.

My brother has an 05 290 Sundeck with the 496. The motor does just fine. He can get up on a slalom ski behind it with8 people in the boat.
I have a 2007 270 SLX with a 496 with 575 hours on it. Runs like a top. Boat is like a sports car.
Anyway, the 496 is bullet proof, at least in my experience. YMMV. It can go through plugs and wires according to some people in this site. That was not my experience. I got 12 years out of my plugs, but that was probably 2 years too many. I changed plug wires for the first time last year. No sign that they were going bad, just premptive.

My only concern with would be just 200 hours on a 15 year old boat. That's less than 15 hours a year. Sometimes lack of use can cause more problems than over use.

As mentioned above, the 496 is a good motor. If you don’t know the history, I would do plugs and wires just to start with a known maintenance date. Also, change the antifreeze if you don’t know when it was done, and if it is orange dexcool, stick with that.
