Hey everybody, I just bought a 2008 Sport 175 that is in good shape except for the cd player doesn't work. I bought a new one to replace it, an I found out Im only getting 2 volts of juice to the wiring harness for it. The battery isn't dead and it'll crank up fine.

This is confusing to me, it would seem I'd either have 12 or 0, so im not quite sir what the problem is and it'd be a huge pain to try to Trace all the wires. Does anybody habe any ideas what it might be?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hanging around the forums

Matt

Which wire had the low voltage, the constant B+ MEM or the switched turn-on? Where did you clip the meter's ground lead, when measure the voltage? A poor ground reference will also give you a low voltage reading.

The low voltage is likely cause by a poor, corroded or loose connection. Knowing which of the 3 head-unit wires is the problem, will get you going in the right direction.

And while you're at it, check the stereo memory fuse (what Wylie is referring to as the B+ MEM). Follow the wires coming off your battery and you'll find it. Although, the stereo should still work without that fuse. The owners manual will give you more information on this, as well.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. It turns out im an idiot and it was getting 12 volts on my ignition wire, I just had a bad battery or yellow constant wire. I just spliced the yellow into my red ignition and it turned on and worked fine, since this will only effect saving my presets on the radio im probably just going to leave it like that and not trace where the yellow wire.

The yellow wire will go back to that fuse I mentioned. But for the life of me, I could of sworn that the stereo would still function w/o that wire.

Yeah thats what I thought too, it didnt make sense to me why it wouldnt but that was definitely the problem

For most any head-unit made in the last 15 years, the yellow B+/MEM is actually the wire the head-unit operates on. The switched red is nothing more than a 12V trigger to wake up the head-unit.

Makes sense. Thank you.
