I had previously winterized my 2008 185 Sport w/ 4.3L and alpha 1. l luckily had the bottom plug in, shrink wrapped etc...During the hurricane, the boats in my marina (including mine) floated up from the high water/storm surge. Would I need to re-winterize any part of the engine or outdrive?

Thanks!!!

I think I have the same feeling as Scott. I'll venture a guess that since you're taking the time to ask, you may feel the same way?

There's probably just as good of a chance that raw water pushed it's way in as not. I would think that at least some did make it's way in (depends on where the actual waterline was). If it did make it's way in, the raw water probably didn't make it's way to the manifolds, but personally I would just redo all the parts. Drain it - then back fill through not just the inlet hose, but also the block and the two manifold hoses - have 4-5 gallons, just in case. I usually end up sacrificing a little extra to the winterizing gods.

Time-wise, Scott is being generous - but then, that's probably how long it takes him since he usually has a six-pack sitting next to him. Depending on how "seasoned" you are at this, the actual "work" part can be done in as little as 10 minutes.

I would rewinterize - since it could have siphoned water depending on what happened to the boat while floating. Happened in our marina when the docks collapsed, one of the boats in the marina siphoned water. Fortunately he was able to rewinterize.

Exactly my feelings!! I dont like taking chances with the boats anyway, so why tempt fate. Ok, so i will definately drain it again, pull the hoses and insure additional A/F gets in there. Much appreciated.... As always!!!!

Just a quick update. I re-winterized the engine & drive. Glad I did since there definately was raw water that made its way into the powertrain when i drained it. Keep in mind, my boat was attached to its trailer, so it was sitting about 600 lbs lower in the water... Thanks for the good advice everyone!
