Hey Guys,

Im looking to upgrade to one of these boats. I just sold my motorcycle and my 2004 sea ray sport 180. 4cyl. I had the sport for 4 years and I fell in love with sea ray. So my question to you is what is your opinion on these two boats? I want to use the boat for water sports (mainly wakeboarding) and to tie up with everyone at party cove!. I know they are somewhat similar. the 2007 210 select looks more sporty comes with tower, and has a huge sunpad and platform. I do not like having to open the sun pad to create a walk through, it seems like it would be much easier to just walk on the sunpad. I really like the details on this boat. its selling for 28K with 150 hours.

The 2005 sea ray 200 select is nice too. It doesn't look as sporty though also doesn't come with a tower. It has a different floor plan which I do like. Its selling for 24K with 140 hours. I would be satisfied with either. I just want to make the right decision because I will have this boat for the next 5years

Both boats have the 5.0 mercruiser and are in excellent shape. trailers are in good shape too.

thanks in advance
michael

For the difference in$$$ I'd do the 07. if you are going to wake board it's better to use the tower for the tow line to keep the line out of the wake unless the 05 has a pilon. the sun pad thing is a minor incOnvience IMO

I would definitely buy a tower if I bought the 200 select. It seems like there are many to choose from Here in Dallas, and a very few of the 210's. mainly because the rest of them are 30k and up.

Thanks

By the time you get a tower on the 2005 you'll be about the same price as the 2007, so if it were me, I'd just go ahead and get the 2007. I also think factory installed towers look a little nicer (assuming it's a factory installed tower)

Go with the 2007...you can probably negotiate close to the price of the 2005, if not lower.

if it is Bravo 3's then there is only one choice - the 2007. Up to 2005 there was lots of corrosion issues with the Bravo 3. (more than now)

I had the 2009 210 select - and they are lovely. Every extra foot gives stability. And you can create a lot of wake with it. But it takes some experimentation with weight distribution. With the 5.0L 260MPI and Bravo 3 combi - it is kind of rear heavy which helps create some wake. The bravo 3 is a heavy beast :) compared to the Alpha 1.

The only issue is do put the cover on when it is sunbed wet - that will provoke more mold growth (lookup pink stains vinyl) - and the cover touch a lot of the sunbed - and where it touches - I got the pink stains.

The other thing is get the starter checked. The engine sits very very low - and so does the starter motor. That means it is very close to what ever water you have in the bilge. So I had to have my starter motor contacts cleaned every year (but I had it in salt water) - and you can only see it with a mirror or if you are very tiny.....

We loved our '07 210SEL. We only moved up to be able to stay out overnight. I'd say go for it over the 200SEL. The higher tow point on the tower is a huge difference when it comes to wakeboarding. Easier to get up and easier to perform tricks. I think the price is high, though. We traded ours in a year and a half ago with fewer hours (IIRC - close if not lower) and they gave us about that (of course it was toward the 290DA, so the numbers can be shifted back and forth). Of course, in your area, they may be going for that. Either way, be firm and talk them down. There are tons of boats on the market and you are in the driver's seat.

Thanks for the advice! It looks like I will attempt to purchase the 2007 sea ray 210 select if this guy is willing to negotiate. If not Im pretty sure I can snag one up this fall/winter for a good price. Theres really not that many on the market right now and I've been searching all of the texas area.. the cheapest I have seen them in is in the high 20'K's. Im looking on craigslist and boattrader.com. Wish me luck and thanks for your 2cents!

I have a 2006 200 select, which I think is pretty much identical to the 2005 version you are looking at.

Mine has the factory installed tower, the 5.0mpi engine/alpha 1 drive, and full width sunpad.

The 200 select and the 210 select are exactly the same length overall (6.4m), I reckon they're probably even the same hull.

In your situation I'd probably go for the newer boat, just because it should (in theory) be less likely to suffer problems.

I use it for mainly wakeboarding, and with a 5 blade prop it pulls really well, with the standard 3 blade it pulls ok.

Either boat would prbably suit you fine, so maybe talk to them both and see who can do the best price?

I completely forgot I posted this back in 2012! I just thought I'de give you guys an update. I went with a Blue 2005 sea ray 220 select with the factory wakeboard tower,5.0mpi,and brovo3. It has the walk thru by the sunpad. It's been an awesome boat!. I bought it from a private seller on craigslist for 20K. it had 99 hours. Going on my third season with this bad boy. I've been thinking about getting a wb boat but Im trying to fight the urge.
