I recently bought this boat used, and it runs great, but it seems like every other time I use it, the alarm under the dash goes off after about 30 minutes. Oil pressure and temperature are fine, and boat still runs fine. The manual does not go into any detail about this alarm, and it often shuts off after a while.

Anyone know other causes for this alarm?

Thanks in advance.

If at WOT and fully trimmed when it goes off then you need to put the trim down a little bit so it is sucking up the water and the prop is not slipping.

Thank you for the reply. I think that's likely the issue. I was unaware of this. As a rule, what is the highest you can trim? 1/4?

What are your thoughts on the 195 Sport in General? Great boat, but it sure does like gas!

Thank you!

The alarm will go off due to:
1. Low oil pressure
2. High temperature
3. Low gear lube

As far as trimming the drive, if you trim too high, you will hear the engine start to rev with no increase in speed, this is called ventilation, and happens when the drive is trimmed too high causing air to be sucked into the prop stream. The prop begins to "slip", at that point just trim the drive back down slightly until the ventilation stops, you will feel the prop "bite" again. Ventilation can also happen in sharp turns if the drive is trimmed up. There is no set rule of where to trim the drive (it has a limit that will stop it from trimming too far), it varies depending on speed, load, water conditions, most people just use the gauge as a guide, and trim the boat by feel. You will learn know when you hit the boats "sweet spot". Find some smooth water and play with it, running about 30mph, trim the engine up and down to get a feel for how it behaves - trimmed to far down the boat will "plow" and slow down because the bow is too far down, trimmed too far up and it will ventilate or porpoise because the bow is too far up. One way to think of it is, the drive trimmed down is like a car in 1st gear, as you increase speed, trim it up a lot like shifting gears.

Bill, I very much appreciate it, and am so glad I found this forum. Went out again today with no issues, and the gear lube is fine. That must have been it. I think I was pushing beyond the sweet spot.

Take Care.
