I have a 07 230 select with the 350 mag and bravo 3 combo and had a question regarding the drive oil. I check all fluids prior to my day on the water and over the last several trips I have noticed that the drive oil level in the container in the engine compartment is dropping. I have found no oil leaks anywhere inside the boat or around the foot or prop shaft. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
Thanks for the help

My 05 does the same thing. I was told that when the drive gets hot the oil blows out of the shaft. I keep a quart of drive oil on the boat and fill up when nessary. I had the unit pressure tested and no leaks were found. When i went to the boat show i was told by merc, that if the drive is removed and replaced it could take a few times running the boat before the oil is set at the prpoer level.

hope this answers your question.

I had this drive oil consumption with my Bravo 3 and was also told that hot running conditions cause seal blow-by while underway. It was especially prevalent when our lake water temps. climbed over 80 degrees in the summertime. I added a drive shower (Simrek) to my lower unit and the drive oil consumption all but stopped. The shower is very easy to bolt on and it looks really cool (as seen when tubing behind the boat).
