started to change my fuel filter last week, but it doesn't want to come off and I was twisting it with a filter wrench about as hard as I dared, anyone have any suggestions???

I have to ask... are you turning it the correct way? From the top-down-view, be sure you're going clockwise.

What type of filter wrench do you have?

Other than that, it was (obviously) put on too tight and possible w/o any oil on the rubber gasket. You just need to go harder at it. If you're using a strap (or chain) wrench, get the strap up by the open-end of the filter since it's the strongest there and you have less chance of crushing it.

thanks Dennis, for the reply....I am with you about the "correct way".....I am trying to turn it clockwise, from the top down......I have a metal band, pressure type, filter wrench...I moved it up to the top (open end) and was putting enough torque on it to move the metal bracket that it attaches to...it was making me a little nervous putting that much torque on it.....I have broke enough things over the years to know better......the "bigger hammer" approach always concerns me after so many years on the planet...this is a "step back, chin scratch-er"....I didn't put it on so I am pondering before breaking something and suddenly acquiring a project I don't need.....

I know what you mean about "moving the metal bracket". That's not uncommon - seen it happen many times. Obviously I can't tell you how much is too much over a forum, but I can at least tell you that I've never broken one. I'll sometimes try to resist it with my other hand, but I usually just put gradual, slow pressure on it and it begins to move.

Dennis, wouldn't a 2007 model 5.0 have Cool Fuel 3, not the inline or "oil filter" style fuel filter? Maybe not if this is a 5.0TKS Carb? The OP does not say MPI or TKS. My understanding has been that all 5.0MPI after mid-2005 had CF3, dont know about TKS. Just curious more than anything.

Usually there is a flat spot on the cast housing itself for a wrench. Use bigger tools, don't stress the wimpy bracket

I'd like to add what usually works for me when engine room allows, I will use two oil filter wrenches. One on each side. One to start off with a gradual pull and the other to push with then slowly I'll start to give it careful full strength until it turns.

Jason, if the engine package is an MPI with an Alpha drive system made in 2005 +, then the cool fuel would still be a cool fuel Gen 2. The MPI's with Bravos only use the Gen 3 system not the Alphas. Also all carbureted engines would have the oil filter type fuel filter.

thanks everyone for the added tips......it is the "oil filter" type for sure....I am going to try the two tool approach when i get the time.....have been busy with work and other projects....thanks again though, I am optimistic about the two handed, two tooled method, if I can secure that bracket that it threads onto I will not have any reservations about making the other direction bleed.......!%#@*!&*~+&
