I'm looking to buy a freshwater only 340 sundancer with approx 250 hours on it and I'm trying to get a better feel for the value. This boat seems to be in excellent shape. Hull nice and shiny. My question is: Does the nada guide provide an accurate value for these boats? And do you necessarily add every option that the boat has even if it comes standard on this boat? There is a big difference between the nada value for the boat without checking any options and the same boat with all options checked. Of course I'll have it hauled and a survey done prior to closing the deal. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think NADA is good for pricing boats. It really is affected more by region and condition. He'll the time of year the boat is for sale makes a difference. Send me a PM if you want some insight on what I paid for my '06 last winter.

I just purchased a 2006 340 in November. I used NADA as a reference but also looked at other boats in the area for sale. Yachtworld gives a good idea. You can filter the boats down to match the model you are looking at and compare to what's our there. When I used NADA I just checked the major additions that the boat had, like generator or bow thruster.

Also, I believe if you work with a broker they can show you this pricing history of a boat.. Listing Price, any reductions, and what're final selling price ended up being. Mine gave mean report for all the similar boats for sale and sold recently. It's helpful to see how long a boat has been listed at a certain price.

I tried to send you a PM. I think it went through. Is there a published listing of comps?

Not a public one that I know of. If you have a brokers license and pay enough to yachtworld you get access to comps. Perhaps somebody on here could run the report for you.

Also, another note about NADA. Try to use it to your advantage if its cheaper than the listing. If it's not then don't bring it up in negotiations. It at least lets the seller know that you've done your homework.

Thats kind of what I'm doing as well - using it as a guide as well as the listings that are currently for sale now. What I don't know is the actual sales price of these boats. There can be a huge difference.

Does anyone else have any input?

Yachtworld is the best source. Their recent sold list will give you a good ideal of what to expect. Again, you need to have a broker do this for you.
