I just got a 2007 340 SDA in December, and it seems unusually susceptable to rain leaks. I discovered water in the forward cabin floor compartment near the V-berth. It appears to be coming from under the headliner and working its way along the side of the hull to a triangular area to the left of the the platform that holds the air conditioner under the V-berth. The water in this area had accumulated to a depth that it flowed onto the air conditioner platform and into the storeage compartment thru the condensate hose hole. Since the dock hoses have been turned off all winter, my observations have been limited to visiting the boat after a rain. I don't think the water is coming in from around the hatch since I put tape around the hatch and still had water after a rain. The grab rail beside the hatch is the next most likely suspect because the bow rail is mounted on an elevated part of the deck that would seem less vulnerable to rain. Has anyone else experienced this situation or observed a dealer repair? This is not a beat-up boat. It was not put in service until 2008, has only 90 hours on it and looks like new.

It also seems to collect a lot of water in the bilge after a rain, and I do not have a good idea where it is coming from. Are there some typical water entry paths in the 2003-2008 style 340's? My previous 2004 280 DA and 2000 240 DA had very dry bilges

I have the same model and am having the exact same problem. Same guys must have built both boats. I had myself convinced it was condensation but now I am not so sure. When it warms up I am going to get on her with a water hose and hit all the bow rail stantions to see if that is where the water is coming from.

Have you checked the rails for your sun pad? One of mine had a leak.

Patrick and Twade -

Same boat - same leak. I noticed mine after I purchased it - it had sat outside, uncovered, on the hard stands at MM Buford. Have it in a covered slip now, and obviously, have never seen the leak again...

Left side of the A/C unit, triangular area, about 3" of water...

When I had similar types of problems with my 260DA I asked the CSR members for help and that allowed me to finally figure out what was going on. You might want to read this thread and maybe it will give you some ideas on things to check out. http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5575&highlight=leak

With your leak near the V-Berth you also may want to make sure you anchor locker is sealed properly. I remember reading about a few other folks who had leaks at the bulkhead in the anchor locker that allowed water to get into the V-Berth storage area.

Thanks for your observations. I read the long string about Daves leak - is it still fixed? As soon as the dock hoses are turned on, I'm going to first concentrate on the Sun Pad railings because they look more likely to be is a stream of rain water than the bow railing with its elevated feet.

Twade and Carter- Where did you get those camper-type rear biminis? Do they attach to the zipper for slant back canvas? Also do you get water in the engine bilge from rain?

Patrick,

My boat came with the camper canvas. It does zip into the aft sunshade. The local canvas guys do it here for $4,000 - $5,000 (including the isenglass surrounds).

I do not get water in the bilge from rainwater - but I am in a covered slip, so I'm not in the rain very often! My bilge gets a small amount of water leaking from connections on the fresh water manifold above my HW heater on the forward port side of the ER...This spring's project!

To check the sun pad railing remove the ring around the skylights and run water around the rails. I had a small drip that was running down the ceiling.

Skolbe - Do you mean that if you remove the framework that holds the screen/shade from the inside that you can look behind the headliner and see the sunpad rail attachment? Does the headliner have to be pulled free of adhesive bonds?

I bought my boat used with the camper enclosure. This may be dealer speak but they told me it was a custom canvas job that the previous owner had done to the tune of $10,000. Other Sea Ray owners have looked at it and remarked that it is not the standard SR canvas. Apparently the way the forward isenglass opens up and the black out covers for the camper enclosure are not standard issue.

Yes I do get some water in the bilge but I don't know if it's rain or condensation. My boat is in a covered slip.

No the circular trim ring for the skylights in the foredeck - in the cabin remove those rings - there are only two screws that hold them in place behind the small circular disk. The area is hollow in the ceiling and you will see the bolts for the foredeck - the easy fix would be to put some clear silicone around all of the places the sun pad rails bolt to the deck.

skolbe - Thanks for the tip. Actually being able to see if the sun pad attachments are leaking would be a great help.

Same here. Covered slip and we are in a rainy place :) I did notice a little bit of water outside of the shower sump box (salon floor hatch) a while back. I dried it up and am keeping an eye to see if its simply condensation. I also cleaned the sump box out really well. It was full of midew. We have never used the shower so it must have been coming from the A/C condensation line.
