I'm new to the club so first off hello. I just purchased a new to me 2007 300 and I noticed a slight list to port. It's noticable however, not sinking like noticable. I spent this past weekend cleaning and getting familiar with my new toy when I noticed noticed the list to the port side after my weekend duties. Speaking of duties the holding tank is probably a little more than half full, could this be the cause of the list to the port side? Any advice is welcome.

I just bought a 2004 300 and had the same issue. I checked the port gas tank and it had 78 gallons, the starboard only 16. Couple that with an empty water tank and holding tank and I think that is the cause for the list, but I may be wrong. I'll find out when I actually get to run the gas out.

I thought the gas tanks should empty fiarly evenly??

Having just purchased a 2004 300 Sundancer I'm interested to see if I have the same problem. I only have to get a compression test and launch is scheduled a week Friday. I'd be suprised if it was the water tank since it's located along the centre of the boat under the middle aft berth. The waste tank is located to port so that would likely be the cause, or uneven fuel levels.

Welcome new 300DA owners! The batteries are on the port side of the engine room, and if you have a generator, an extra battery is added to the port side weight (4 total). In addition, if the holding tank is half full and you are carrying an uneven fuel load, it will list slightly.

The generator pulls from the stbd tank, so after a weekend at anchor, I'll notice mine list a little too. The good news is, it doesn't effect the attitude of the boat once you are up on plane.

The 350 Mags will make the boat squat a little more than one with 5.0's...but that is squat I can live with

my next door neighbor is a 2002 300DA water level and fuel level do the same thing to his boat

This is not an issue isolated to the 300 model that I'm aware of. The worst case of listing I have witnessed is on the newer 260. It is a product of hull design, beam width, loading and possibly boat height. Of course having 60-100 gallons more of fuel/water/waste on one side will have an effect, though you may not notice it on a boat with a larger beam. I usually only notice a list when I have a cockpit full of people seated, which is all on the starboard side. If no one is aboard and I have a list I would have to question how my boat is loaded. I keep my fuel tanks even but have never noticed a list due to my tank levels.

Sparky...thats odd that your fuel tanks are that uneven. Might have been sticker shock after the first tank was filled. :wow:
Congrats on your new 300s all!

Gasoline weighs 6lbs per gallon so you had 372lbs more gas on one side than the other. That will definitely cause a slight list.

What has hull design, beam and height got to do with it..........unless, of course, the hull is not symmetrical?

Listing is almost always caused by either loading (your gear, your fuel, your water, waste, etc.) water trapped under the floor of the boat or by design. Sometimes optional equipment, or the lack of those options, creates a list if the option location in the hull is very far off the centerline of the hull.

Appreciate all the replies...I'm guessing the list has to do with the holding tank as the water tank, port and starboard gas tanks are all filled evenly. I guess I can also assume it's nothing major given it seems a couple of owners experience the same. Again, thank to all.

Simply saying that an uneven distribution of weight causing list will vary with these factors. A wide beam boat can usually handle greater loading imbalances without listing. I did not mean to imply that these factors alone would cause listing.

Congrats on your new 300s all!
The gas was from the previous owner so I can't complain too much. Kind of an extra bonus. Will get the boat next week and we'll even up the gas levels then.
Happy to finally find this boat after a 4 month search on both Florida coasts.
