Hi guys...new to Sea Ray and as a result, this forum. I just bought a '07 260 DA with the 350 Mag, 300 hp. Can anyone tell me about their experience with performance of this set up such as getting on plane quickly, cruise and top speed, etc. Any info you have for this newbie would be greatly appreciated!

Mike

Welcome to CSR and congratulations on the new boat.

I replied to your PM with answers to your questions.

Welcome aboard!!

I have a 2005 260 with this setup. She takes some time to get up on a plane but cruises nicely at 3600~3800rpm. I've found if you set the trim tabs fully down you get up quicker, then retrim to normal up after you are on a plane. My boat generally handles best with engine trim at 4 or 5 (Smartcraft trim readout) and trim tabs almost up. Top speed is probably a little over 30mph maybe up to 35mph.

Enjoy your new 260,

Mike

Thanks for the info guys. It won't be often that I would have more than 4 on the boat so hopefully this won't be much of an issue. Great info. Thanks again.

I have an 07 260 with the same engine. I'm happy with it, but it's not known for speed/performance. However, for my cruising needs it's perfect.

You'll find tons of 260 info on this forum and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Esteban

Thanks Esteban. After posting this question I found a very good thread that thoroughly discussed it. Guess next time i'll know to read through more of the prior material before throwing a topic out there that's already been discussed. REALLY looking forward to trying out the new boat. May get a chance next week. I'm in Alabama and the weather is pretty sweet this week. Thanks for the reply.

I broke 30 MPH only once...The channel was like glass, and had no one else aboard. Virtually no gear and less than a quarter of a tank of fuel. I do have the bigger generator, ac, paint, and a couple of other heavy options, but after only 1 season, I'm wishing I had gone with the 496 MAG. My buddy has a Chaparral 276, which is a little heavier vessel, with the 496 config. It JUMPS out of the water and is on plane in a matter of seconds. Tops out at nearly 45 MPH. Definitely am going to take a harder look at my power options the next time around.
But she anchors out in the cove better than any of them!!

As I am also a Newbie to the 260DA world. I have an older version(2000 with 5.7EFI). Anyway, where are you ?

Welcome to the ever growing 260DA Family and enjoy.

I did a posting awhile back on my fuel burn numbers and here are my speeds at various RPMs as recorded by my Smartcraft interfaced Northstar Chartplotter (and GPS SOG):

Speed/ RPM / Fuel Flow/Consumption

07.7/ 1540/ 02.32/ .36
09.7/ 2410/ 05.86/ .69
15.7/ 3120/ 10.78/ .78
25.3/ 3570/ 12.08/ .55
27.9/ 3950/ 13.37/ .55
31.7/ 4380/ 17.50/ .62
35.2/ 4680/ 20.24/ .65

Here is the original posting on the subject. http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4189&highlight=northstar

I have also seen top speeds slightly higher than shown here as well. But for cruising, the 350 works fine. Of course a 496 would be very nice too and will net you upper 40's at top end.

Hi Todd. I'm in Alabama. Boat is at Lake Martin. I've added a signature to my profile so hopefully that will show up now.

Sounds like you get decent speed from yours Dave. I'm not looking to be a speed demon, just a nice comfortable cruising speed, but it's nice to know that when you want to get there a little more quickly you can do it! I have the Heat and AC option as well that Goomah mentioned which may add some weight but I do not have the generator. Talked to a friend of mine who has a 52 foot Sundancer. He said you always have "2 foot itis" as he called it. I'm just ready to get on this one and try it out!.

Cool, Sounds like you guys in the SE are finally getting your lakes refilled.
Glad to hear it and again welcome. Since Dave, Mike, Esteban, SS and others have your same 260DA model style they're a great resource. Mine's older and new to me, so I'm learning about it as well.

Enjoy!
