I think those would be QSC's, they are the 8.3s. The QSMs are 11 liters, or litres if you prefer.

I have the QSCs, run great in a 48DA. I had the older mechanical 8.3s in a Tiara, never missed a beat. It's all about if they were maintained or not...

I have a friend with a 44 sedan bridge with the same engines. Great engine and good match for the boat.

When we did our survey, the engine tech said that the CTA and QSC are on top of the list as far as reliability. He also said something I was not aware of. The BTA and QSB (5.9) are not in-frame rebuildable. The CTA and QSC (8.3) are.

Good Morning, Richard. Now that it appears you are on the doorstep of owning this new-to-you boat, how about sharing some photos of it.

Probably because they are sleeved. I know the CTA's are can't speak for the QSC.

"In Frame" is a bit of a misnomer for boats. Even for a re-sleeve / piston package the rod bolts still need to be accessed. That means the head needs to be pulled engine jacked way up, and oil pan must be removed with access under then engine to do that work. Isn't going to happen cost effectively on a diesel Sea Ray. So, the bottom line is wither sleeving or boring the engine most likely needs to be pulled.

I currently am running the5.3 370 bta's in a 34 Luhrs and they have been bullet proof. Thanks for the help

My 2006 44db has the QSC 500’s and it’s the best running boat I ever had period.

The 2006-2008 44DB's only came with the QSC 500's. Very clean, quiet engines. I had mine for 5 seasons. I had persistent problems with belt wear and resultant black dust and had to replace both alternators for ground issues. Otherwise it was oil and filter changes only. While I never thought it during my ownership, once I moved to the QSM-11 52DB, I think the 44DB's were underpowered, especially for blue water cruising.
